hello everyone. I have been lurking around..Saw a rheumy 2 weeks ago, still waiting for my follow up info for my diagnosis..short story. Im 43 and thought last year with wrist and hand pain it was carpel tunnel.  test negative..referral to rheumy sedrate 74 and rf was 104 and low on vit d. Sympyoms include achy joints of fingers, hand wrist, feet mostly. not much swelling..reynods symptoms and tired easliy.. I thought I was depressed until labs.  all my other labs are neg that rheumy did.ra?osteo?fibro? or sljens? is what the possibilitys....diane(nuttynurse25)

Obviously only a doc can give you a diagnosis but your labs and symptoms point toward one of the Autoimmune disorders such as RA.
I hope you get answers and even more importantly treatment soon.
Keep in mind that a diagnosis sometimes takes a long time but if your rhuemy starts treating your inflamation that is the important thing for now.
Nice to have you join us although we all wish that no one had to come here because the developed an illness.

Thanks sj for your support...Sometimes I think animals get better treatment then humans...havivg to wait for dx,insurance companys not allowing lab work at an out network...because they allow me to go outof netwrk to see a rheumy but woudnot allow my labs to be done...so now a delay....diane

Sounds like a good start. Those are common drugs to start on with RA. Make sure you take the folic acid it is prescribed to counter the toxicity of Mtx. If you are interested in other peoples experiences with the Mtx we have a thread about starting on MTX. Just ignore my posts I was scared to death to take the stuff and whined a lot but I am on week six now feeling very good and glad I agreed to take it. The medrol should help you feel better quickly but if you find the symptoms come back as you get to the end of the pack tell your rhuemy he may be willing to give you pred for the six weeks or so the mtx needs to kick in.

Diane,

I"m glad you are getting results! Something with the Medrol..make sure you eat something before you take it, otherwise it can make your tummy hurt..a lot!! I found out the hard way!

I hope you feel better soon..and of course you're not crazy :-)

You should not take motrin with mtx unless you have your doctors approval. When studies have been done using NSAIDS with mtx they have caused increased toxicity-sometimes fatal. In RA mtx and NSAIDS are sometimes used together but your doctor must monitor blood counts and the key is to keep the level of NSAID constant. Type methotrexate and NSAID into google and you will find lots of information.

Yally-yup, tylenol should be fine. The NSAIDS would be okay for someone who is established on both and followed by a doctor but if you aren't getting blood work done frequently or if not prescibed I would avoid the NSAIDS.
