Hi all,  I dont normally post in this forum but in the last 6 weeks or so I have had some of the most terrible lower back pain.  I do have heart diease with a pacemaker implant, multiple sclerosis and another neurological disorder which lowers my blood pressure at times to the point where I pass out.  So, thinking I may of injured my hip in some way during one of my last low bp spells I asked my MD to do an xray.  This was only of the pelvis area and showed arthritic changes, and degentrive joint diease in both hips.  My mom has djd in both knees and hips so for this I was not too surprised.
However, my pain is so great I cant sit on my bottom for more then 30 minutes without wanting to cry.  I tried physicial thearpy but I do exercise every morning and pt didnt help with the pain.  So, my doc ordered a CT Scan of my spine monday which has shown degenerative joint & disk disease.
I am now to be starting a course of injections but I am unsure what exactly they are.  I just want the pain to stop.  Has anyone here done these spinal injections or have djd of the spine?  I am just wondering what to expect and what others experiances were with this procedure and disorder.
Thank you for reading to my rambling

I just had both of my SI [sacroiliiac] joints injected this morning. I have not been able to sit longer than 5 minutes for 8 years. Mine comes mostly from sacroiliitis but I also have moderate to severe DJD and facet disease of the spine and OA of bot hips. I feel your pain!

Anyway, my injections are done under xray guidance to insure that the proper area is injected. I have had lots of joints injected in my life so these never bother me. My doc sedates lots of his patients who are concerned about the procedure. I don't take or get anything. Noy knowing where he plans to inject, I can't tell you what to expect. I doubt you are having SI injections because those are pretty specific to the disease I have [AS].

Hi Elisha,
Have you been to a rheumatologist? At 26 I was told I had DJD in my spine. By 43, my hips were throbbing so bad I couldn't sleep at night. I've been to 2 rheumatologists before one finally listened to my list of complaints (and I literally went in there with a list about one full legal size page). It took 5 years before my rheumy's nurse practitioner finally got me started on plaquenil, sulfasalazine, & an anti-inflammatory (voltaren). It took about 4 months or so, but then I had a 90% improvement. I also got shots of cortesone (or something similar) in both feet, both SI joints, wrists & thumb joints and elbow. It sounds like you might have spondylar arthritis or AS. If that's what the doctor says, make sure they get you on some medication to slow down or arrest any damage to the joints. The shots helped soooo much; now if they suggest it , I go for it. I'm too young to be feeling like an 80 year old! Best wishes to you.

Wow! Thank you both for your replies.  My appointment went very well.  I did find out I have 4 herninated (sp?) disks L5 through L2.  The doctor I am seeing is an anesthesiologist who has his own pain & surgery center.  He has a very good reputation.  I had some sort of steroid/anti inflamatory injection that he gave me in my lower back.  I do feel some better but I have another appointment already set up for the second one as I still have pain when sitting and cant do so for long.

Usually I would pay more attention to what the procedure is or do more research on it but to tell you the truth I havent much cared what the doctors do as long as it is something that will help this pain.  I am getting ready to turn 35 in a few weeks and I dread to think of how I will feel a year from now or even 10 yrs from now.  Sheesh!  rolleyes

Hi Els Im 39 and I got DDD and severe arthritis of the facets joints seeming to deteriate abit fast then it should,  it worsened drastically form last year to this year. I have had facet joint injections but find that they did help much, once I had burning of the nerve this lasted for awhile. I also have disk bulges and herniations, that make it feel worse. My PM(pain manegemt) dr, wants me to do more facet joint injections, and they really didnt help, so i dont know what to do.
Let us know how you made out...
