Welcome!

Hmmm, I've never had much luck with steroids either and one dose of "crazy" was enough for me, so I've been able to refuse them thus far.

If you are not getting relief from the prednisone, I'd call the doctor's office and see what they can offer/suggest. Hopefully some others who are more familiar with that stuff will be around shortly to give you better advice.

Hang in there....I know how hard it is when you are in that much pain and can't get relief.

Don't forget to drink lots of water.

Hi Craig,

If you are talking about the Medrol pack? (21 pill taper) that is not the same as regular pred. Yes, it sometimes happens where you get to the end of the pack and your symptoms return.  I didn't have much luck with my Medrol last week either.  If this is the case for you, call your doctor's office, they will be very concerned to know that the Medrol did not do its job.

Before I was on the hardcore meds I am now I started off on a taper pack, which worked like a miracle - until the end of the taper five days later!  Then I went to daily Prednisone that basically left me with no immune system after a few months, which was probalby worse than just joint pain and swelling.  I think steroids are good for very short term relief but if your doctor puts you on Prednisone, ask what the next plan of attack is, and ask when you can come off the Prednisone.  Ibuprofin also helped me in taking the edge off the pain in the beginning.
