I have to see surgeon on monday 2/9/09. He wants to talk about core decompression in both hips, before total hip replacements. I am only 25 and have avn in both hips, worse in my right but the left is following right behind it. My orthopedic dr. has me in a wheelchair and crutches for non weight bearing treatment until i find out more from the surgeon. Anyone got any advise or experience they want to share?

It is my understanding that core decompression can only be done in the early stages of AVN. So it means they caught yours early which is good. I do think the core decompression requires non-weight bearing for 6 weeks or longer after the procedure - therefore a stint on crutches. I am not a candidate for core decompression so my knowledge is limited to some reading on the subject. Let us know what the surgeon says!

I've had both hips replaced....at the same time. Rehab is alittle tough but the payoff is worth all of it. If you have to have it done you'll appreciate the new quality of life you'll enjoy once your up and moving again.
Crohns 30 years. Ileostomy for 15 years. Symptom free for 14 years until 6 months ago. Now on Remicade and iron. Feeling like a champ!
God Bless. Tony
