Has anyone tried the new drug Cimzia? My doctor is switching me over to it because enbrel stopped working for me. She put in for the authorization in July and I am still waiting due to lots of roadblocks including a positive TB read. I am wondering if I am divinely being stalled because of some danger. Any experience with hit or anyone heard anything?

I see that this is your first post...Welcome! You can also look to the Crohn's disease forum too...There are quite a few threads on this medication...Ivy, one of the forum moderators, has links to many types of meds on all her posts on the signature area. I've been taking this medication, Cimzia, which is similar to other biologics such as Remicade and Humira, for about a year or more.

As to being positive for TB, well, package inserts for all these types of medications, biologics, state that TB can go unchecked and there have been cases of death reported due to TB and Valley Fever too. That is why they check for them (I live in an endemic area for Valley Fever, Arizona, but it can occur in Central Valley of California, and another type in the Midwest farming countries too...not sure where though.)

BTW, other countries sometimes vaccinate for TB thus leading to a positive skin test. The United States does not vaccinate because it is deemed that a skin test in a good epidemiological tool to track the disease...meaning it, the disease TB, is not that common. If you've been vaccinated, just make sure you let your docs know, cuz they'll need to use alternative methods instead of the skin test.

I hope this helps...again, welcome to healing well :-)

Thank you. Knowing that you have been on Cimzia for a year with no major problems gives me some confidence in it. I can't wait to get off of the prednisone before I lose my waist and/or my bone density.
Thanks again! Have a great day!
