Hi all, I saw my Rheumy yesterday. I told her that when I was taking Prednisone a couple weeks ago it was like a miracle. She said we should start Plaquenil and if it doesn't work we can try something else like Enbrel. But that it takes months for Plaquenil to work, so I'm not going to feel relief any time soon. She said I also probably have secondary Sjogren's too- my eyes have been dry for months and now I've been waking up with them all crusty in the mornings. I had a Schirmer tear test done last year (I think) and the number was low (which indicates dry eyes).
This is on top of having fibromayalgia, hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, depression/anxiety, and PTSD, all of which I already take meds for! I feel like a walking pharmacy!
My doc told me that some people break out in an itchy rash on Plaquenil and some people have really bad gas. I don't feel anything yet, but I'm expecting that it will have to be in my system for a couple days before it starts affecting me adversely- if it
s going to. Who knows!
We have been kindof *****footing around with the diagnosis of RA for a couple years now, so I feel relief that she's finally made up her mind about it. Yesterday before my appointment I was really nervous for some reason. But now I feel relieved and sad. And angry. And scared. I guess it's normal to feel all this stuff! I'm just glad I found some places to talk about it! Thanks for being there!

Hey Moggy! Some of these darn things overlap like RA, fibro, Sjogrens.... So sorry you are going through this. I completely understand all the emotions you are going through cause I have been there and still go through them sometimes! I dont mean to add more distress to you but did your doc mention that you need to have your eyes tested on Plaquenil? I remember reading about that but I'm not even sure it needs to be done anymore. I take mtx and Arava right now. Plaquenil was one suggested but my doc decided on adding Arava to my mtx. It takes a long time to work too....all of these meds do...but hopefully they WILL work! I hope the Plaquenil will give you some relief! We are here for you! :)

Hi Moggy, I call it the waiting game. We are always waiting for a new med to kick in or an old med to get out of our system!!! Or for an appt or for a treatment or for a test! I could go on and on, its an unfortunate part of having this disease.

Please come and rant , we are all there for you, sharing your frustration. Are you still on the prednisone? You could ask to stay on a low dose until the plaquenil kicks in, to help you cope in the meantime. Lots of people here rave about plaquenil, cross your fingers that this will work for you. Its a lot less toxic than so many meds for RA. You have to have your eyes tested regularly on it as I'm sure your rheumy would have already told you.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that we also talked about eye dr. stuff. I will make an appointment next week.

In the meantime, the nausea has kicked in. Bleah! I hope I don't throw up. Nausea I can deal with- I had hyperemesis (fancy name for severe nausea & vomiting) with all 3 pregnancies. But I really, really don't like throwing up. I have known people who say they like it because they feel better after they do it. I guess I can understand it but I am not of the same opinion!

How long did it take for the nausea to go away? Did anything help in particualr? Thanks!
