I'm new here and thought I'd day "hi". You might have seen my name pop up in a couple of the forums over the past day or so...

I've found lots of interesting information from reading these forums. I was diagnosed with psoriatic spondyloarthritis and I'm taking only week four of my first round of treatment - 10mg Methadrexate once a week and Prednisone daily (started at 20mg a day week 1, decreasing that dose weekly), plus ibuprofen for inflammation (find this does nothing) and Panadeine Forte for pain relief (I take approx 4 a day, so that's 120 mg coedine). The idea is this prednisone takes away the inflammation and, accordingly, the pain but so far, nothing.

As I said, I'm very new... and looking forward to getting LOTS of advice from you guys.

Apart from this aspect of my life, I am a 32 year old wife and mum to 3 boys, living in New South Wales, Australia, who also happens to work full time hours. Hence the painkillers - I need it to get through to the day!

Apart from picking your brains (read: lots of reading - hey, I'm a Virgo; I can't help it!) I look forward to joining in myself. It's comforting, and not just a little relieving, to realise you're not the only one... "See" you around. :)

How are you finding the MTX? It's very effective but can also be very harsh on some people.

My condolences about the new DX, here's to hoping for remission!

Hi Mel. I'm from Sydney, have had sero negative arthritis for 4 years and have just this year been started on Orencia, as well as mtx and prednisone and mobic this makes up my cocktail to control the RA symptoms. I only work parttime but find that panadeine forte is not enough. I was referred to the Pain management clinic at RPA and since then have been prescribed Norspan patches. I still take the panadeine forte for BT pain if I need to, or I have stronger meds if things get out of hand.
In the early stages its frustrating waiting for the meds to kick in. Mtx can take 2 months before you notice any improvement. Higher doses of prednisone like for me 50mg for 3 days or a pulse of it, can give fairly good relief within a day or two.
You're in the early stage of just waiting to see what will work for you. 10mg of mtx never helped me, it wasn't until I'd gone up to 20 that I noticed an imprvement but I know some people who are on 7.5mg! So it just depends on how your body copes.
Come and rave anytime, its not an easy disease to deal with , you can have some very debilitating flares at times when you're overdoing it and its very hard to pace yourself. But welcome , welcome, good to meet a fellow Ausie, golitho turn
