Good Afternoon,

My doctor recently changed my Humira from every other week to every week. In doing so, my insurance company will only approve this if I am taken off of MTX. Is anyone else prescribed Humira every week instead of every other week? If so, should I expect an increase in side effects or illnesses?

Also, I will be going on a business trip the first week of June. I have never traveled with Humira before. I have the travel pack with the ice insert and I am not concerned with it melting. The biggest concern I have is if the the airlines will give me any trouble with carrying on an injectible. I would assume not since diabetics travel too and have to keep their meds on them, but since this is my first time I am hoping to hear other people's experiences.

Thank you. I dont know how I would have made it this far without the support of this community. (long time reader to know Im not alone-fairly new member)

Were you being helped by the Humira every other week? If not, why not see if you could change to another biological, such as Cimzia?

Every other week was helping during month two but slacked off. I asked for a change of meds to either that or enbral. They suggested this bc it did help for a bit. I was wandering if it increases the chances of the scary side effects like cancer and lupus more than it would with every other week. I see my rheumy again on June 8th and will ask then. I also made notes to ask how I will know when the meds actually work and how I will know when I am in remission.

Hi Too, I can't really help with the humira weekly dosage as I know noone that's been on that dose but at this stage of my disease I always feel its worth a try, we all react so differently and it may just be the answer for you.
As for travelling , you'll probably have to ring the airline forconfimation but I know you can travel with it on board all ice packed up and if you bring sealable plastic bags there is ice on the plane if you need to top it up. Some airlines let you store it in a fridge but I guess it depends on the airline and if there is space. They are generally pretty accomodating as long as you have it with the prescription showing etc. Goodluck, golitho

Update:
I checked with the airline I am flying and a few others. I cannot fly with my medicine. It is the syringe, not the pen. I can fly with it if I remove the needle and fly with just the syringe and medication. The needle doesnt come off, so that apparently makes me a terrorist threat. I am also running into the problem of where to dispose my syringe after my injection. The hotel or the office I will be working in does not have a sharps container. Looks like I may have to buy a small one for travel and seal it after disposal, in order to trash it.

Thankfully my husband wanted a small get away. We will be driving to St. Louis Saturday and I will fly home after the conference. He will drive home once the conference starts. Lets face it.... work conferences barely allow you enough time to sleep, much less enjoying your husband.

Thank you all for your support (always) and suggestions.

Airlines are getting worse and worse aren't they, took my soap off me last time I flew, don't know what they thought I was going to do with my soap? You can only laugh, then I tried to bring a small pot of jam back with me in my hand luggage and that was threatened to be taken off me as it was more than 100ml. I just don't see jam as a liquid? Because it was sealed they let me off.

But while I was away I put my sharp into a container at a pharmacy, I just asked and they gave me a sharps container to use there, my doctor was saying a blood collection place would allow you to drop off a sharp as well.

Maybe worth a phone call? I also use needles what a pain the next time I want to travel overseas for more than 2 weeks. You wouldn't be able to afford to buy the stuff outside your country or probably even get approval to buy it, I wonder what you're suppose to do?

Good luck with it all, I hope you enjoy the holiday, golitho
