I'm still in the diagnostic process, but I was wondering if RA can interfere with the healing of an injury. I badly sprained my wrist in February, and I kept it splinted for 6 weeks like my dr suggested. That kept it comfortable, but no big improvement. Then business kept me from getting started on PT for another 3 weeks. Went through PT for a month, massage, ultrasound, movement and strength exercises, and I've had about a 70-80% improvement. The strength exercises haven't helped much with strength and there are days where it is quite sore.
I do have some RA symptoms, stiff, swollen, inflamed joints and joint pain (fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders, elbows, neck, hips, knees, feet), low grade fevers, stiffness, weakness, etc. I also have Sjogrens symptoms, dry eyes, nose, mouth, throat, lungs, and also numbness and burning in my hands. Blood tests done in October 2011 were negative and the lip biopsy didn't show anything.
The rheumy I've been seeing isn't that good. Won't do anything unless my test results show something, despite the hip pain being so bad I can barely walk sometimes. My PCP thinks I'm on the right track with something autoimmune. I do have a referral to a new rheumatologist in August and I also have an appointment with and orthopedist in July.
Lost a little weight too, and I also have gastroparesis like symptoms. I can manage that ok with diet, but it's a bit annoying to have to do. Not being able to eat anything I want.
Could whatever is going on with me be a factor in why my wrist isn't healing?
