My doctor has allowed me to choose between Sulfasalazine or Minocycline for my RA. I really need the opinions from anyone who has had experience with these 2 medicines. Please note that I am very sensitive with medicine and with food.

I have been on Sulfasalazine for the last 6 months and it takes alot to get used to this medication. For 2 months I stayed so sick to my stomach and had to keep the belly full because you have to take it on a full stomach. It also took 5 months to work. It took all i had to get used to Sulfasalazine. Before this med I was on plaquenil but it quit working after 2 years. Drink alot of water because if you dont it will turn your skin orange and your stool will be orange too. So wish i could help with the Minocycline but havent had any experience with it and didnt know it is used for RA. Good luck, Constantpain

I've been on sulfasalazine for just over 3 months now with no side affects, however I can't say I've noticed it helps. I'm still on steroids to control my flare-ups, but it's till early days I suppose. Haven't heard of the other ones though. Hope this helps :)

Hang in there, mino can take a while to work. I was on it for months and finally had to stop due to stomach problems but I know that some people have had it work well. Same with Sulfa. It took almost 6 months to kick in but once it did I was on it for a year or so and went into a remission that lasted for about another year.

Do yourself a favor and eat something with these every time. Take care of your stomach, after 20 years of RA and all kinds of NSAID's my stomach can't handle ibuprofen or aspirin at all. Let alone all those spicy foods I used to love.
