I have ear pain in the L ear only. The inner ear feels very hot and full. The pain often cause me to feel nauseated and comes on with a bout of diarrhea. I have always been treated like it was sinus related problem. I recently had an MRI and was told there is a large blood vessel that sits over a nerve in that area, making the treatment now a nerve related problem. The pain I have acts like a migraine and I take Sumatriptan which stops the pain but it often returns. I have had this issue for about 20 years seeing many doctors and trying many things. I was told it could be arthritis in the middle ear, but I never heard of this. I am wondering if anyone else experiences this and what is the treatment? How is it diagnosed? Is there more long term treatment?

Hi and welcome. I get pain in my jaw and ear from RA intermittently. I know others do as well but I have no idea if this is common with other forms of arthritis. As far as treatment that will be specific to whatever form of arthritis one is diagnosed with which is a question you should take up with your doctor.
RA is related to the immune system and not all forms of arthritis are similar in this respect so it depends on what you are affected by as to the treatment.
In my case RA is treated as a systemic illness so other than receiving some injections now and then with steroids I have been treated using biologic class drugs. The disease ebbs and wanes at times so the treatment effectiveness in my experience does the same.
I hope that you find relief and make sure to tell us what your Doctor has to say about it.

Don D,,,Thanks for your reply. I was feeling like I do when I go to the Dr. a lot of talking, and no results. I came to this forum to gain more knowledge and to help me share my story. I spend a lot of time trying to figure this out and it is exhausting. I guess my biggest hope is to find the right Dr, and that is my next challenge. I will post again.

Hi there,
I've had a lot of ear issues with my inflammation and psoriasis. You didn't mention what kind of doctor you see - but I would suggest finding a good ENT if you haven't yet. Also, maybe try your dentist - if you have any TMJ or do any teeth grinding at night, that might increase the issues and a custom fitted night guard might help alleviate the ear pain somewhat. The diarrhea that comes with the ear pain does stump me. Have they tested you for inflammatory diseases? Allergies?
Hang in there and good luck. I hope you find answers and relief soon!
