Hi Everyone,  I usually am in the depression and heart forums but have been learking around in here lately.  I am wondering if anyone has any experiance with this...My mom has Dejenerative Joint Diease and has had it for many years.  She is now 51 and about 6 years ago she had to have total knee replacements.  Well, I am told that this is heritatry and I now have DJD.  I also have Multiple Sclerosis and an autonomic disorder which causes me to have many falls.  I have been followed by a knee specilaist for a while now and he has scheduled orthoscopic knee surgery in September to assess the damage to my knees caused by arthritis.  I cant have an MRI as I have a pacemaker, I am 32 years old.  I am worried that I will too have to have knee replacements and after watching my mother after her surgery I dont think I could suffer with that kind of pain.    I have went thought the Cortizone injections and the Sinvisc(sp?) injections with no relief from knee pain.  Has anyone had any experiance with this?  Or does anyone know if this is indeed family related?  I guess I am kind of wanting to know what to expect...any advice would be much appreciated.  Thank you

Hey Elisha... welcome to the Arthritis side of the house! Sorry to hear about your mom and now your diagnosis. Unfortunately, I have not had any type of experience with this, but I know there are a few on here who do... As well as Erin, who is looking at possibly having this done too.. hang in there and someone will be along shortly! Duck

Elisha it is my belif that the most common cause of degeneration in the knees and hips is plantar facitis ( fallen arches), this rotates both the knees and hips inward. I treat my patients for this with orthotics , if this is corrected the wera and tear to both of these areas should stop as well as any pain. Orthotics can be fitted by a chiropractor or podiatrist and cost from around $100-500. My prefrence is a rigid orthoitc as opposed to a soft orthotic.

Good luck!
