I am very new and only been to my regular doctor....I see the rheumatologist on Thursday.... Today is a really bad day!!! I cannot stand the pain when it is in my shoulders or my knees... I did not sleep all night, I can barely move my arms to type sad    Right now I find it so hard to believe that a month ago I was moving along fine.  Now my feet are bad, my hands (I can barely move my index fingers) and it keeps moving between my shoulders and knees!!!!   My doctor is 95% sure it is RA but wants the specialist to make the dx.  My RF was positive 80 and my other RF test was positive (it was some sort of ratio) and my ANA was positive.  There is one test for Lupus that was sent to a lab in CA and has not come back yet.  But he doesn't think it is Lupus because I have not probs with my kidneys or other organs or a rash.
Right now I have been reading about the drugs and the pain and in all truth it is just depressing.  I keep willing my body but it certainly is not complying with my wishes!!! I would love to hear something positive... does methotrexate really make your hair fall out?  I am only taking NSAD's (with very little relief) because my doctor wants the rhuematologist to treat.  Sorry to vent sooooo long but I am just so tired and in pain and just plain miserable today (ahhh but it is a good day because I can get off the toilet :-) )

Hi Pupsmom,

I'm pretty new to all of this, too. You were very lucky that you have a PCP who did the necessary tests quickly and gave you a tentative Dx. I know it is overwhelming- in October I had knee surgery and from that point on it went down hill fast. (I have also been dx'd with fibromyalgia) Three weeks ago I woke up with intense wrist pain and throbbing and I was unable to grip things. I was panicked because I am an artist and I became so depressed over the two Dx- I felt as if my life was about to change radically and I'd have to give up doing many of the things I love. I'm on the down-side of a bad flare now and my mood has changed dramatically. I have not started any RA meds at this time and I see my rhemy again on the 28th. He ordered a gazillion other tests that he said he wanted results from before he sets up a treatment protocol. I am taking vicodin 10/660mg, 2 every 4-5 hours, just to stay ambulatory, so I can imagine how awful you feel without anything stronger than NSAIDs. Can't your PCP give you a Rx fro somethin stronger in the interim until you see your rheumy?

Hi there,
Please don't be discouraged, it will get better!! I'm pretty new at this too, only on week6 of methotrexate, ( haven't lost any hair yet) but it's so great that your doctor ordered the tests already and you get to see the specialist on Thurs..that should cut down a lot of the wait. Once you see the doctor, they should be able to start you on things that will help you with the pain and the swelling.
When I was first in, my hands were KILLING me, that's why I went. Could barely move my fingers, then when it hit my shoulders, itgot pretty bad. Couldn't even turn the wheel of the car to drive. But, that has all improved so much. Yes, I still hurt, some days worse than others, but nothing like it was in the beginning. I do daycare in my home and have been able to keep up.
This is a great place for people to come and vent, and you probably read more about the questions and the problems than the improvements, but I know that I'm not near as bad as I was earlier. Everyone here is so helpful, I hope you find it to be true for you as well,
Take care, and let us know how things go,

Thanks Jody and Holly... I am just miserable today. Right now I can barely move because it is in my shoulders so bad. I just need to know that I can feel better. I am so tired lately but that is probably because I can hardly sleep because every time I move the pain wakes me up. I am not giving up. Yesterday was a pretty good day and today WHam!!! I really hope the rheumy can give me some relief.

Thanks again!!!!!!
