I had my first rhuematologist appt today. He told me that he wasn't going to give me any disease modifying meds yet because mt rf is positive but on the low side and he doesnt feel any nodules or significant swelling. He told me that this could be just the start of ra but he wants to make sure. I have to have more x rays and blood tests, crp, ANTI ccp, and rf again. I have the morning stiffness and the pain is brutal throughout the day, I feel like maybe i'm being a baby complaining especially if this is only the beginning of ra! But this really hurts. I was just wondering if anybody else has had the same problems with getting an actual diagnosis. I just want to know what this is so I can try to feel better It's funny how you wait so long for these appts and when you leave you still don't know what the heck is going on. Well, thanks for letting me vent!

hey there,
Sorry things didn't go like you hoped, but my doc didn't start me on meds right away either. My first appt was an exam, blood tests, etc. We discussed what her intial thoughts were about a diagnosis, then I had to return for the results of all the tests, etc. It wasn't until that second appt that we began treatment. When do you go back?
Know it can be frustrating, but on one hand, be glad that the doctor is being cautious enough to really make sure what you're dealing with before they start perscribing medications. This way they can be sure you're getting the right treatment for you.  Did they give you anything for pain?
Hang in there,

I got medication on my first visit - but my first trip was so overdue that a monkey could have diagnosed me correctly! I think I had six swollen joints - or maybe it was nine?

Hope everything works out well for you MM30!
