Purple, YES, your symptoms sound very familiar to me. I had HORRIBLE gerd that I would get at night, I'd wake up with my throat burning so bad I could hardly breathe or swallow. I would take a lot of tums, some GERD meds and guzzle cold water and ice. It was the worst feeling. After that last episode, I started taking my nexium every night regardless. It would fool me b/c I wouldn't have it during daylight hours, only in the middle of the night after I would lie down. I think the GERD on top of a dry membrane was causing the severe burning and stinging. I was worried it was going to swell up and I wasn't going to be able to breathe. It would take about
an hour to get some relief too. If it never happens again, it will be too soon.
I am lactose intolerant, so if I eat dairy, I have to take lactaid tablets. I am also gluten free as I swear it makes my symptoms worse and I take my plaquenil. I am going to try the Evoxac. I have asthma, so it could cause a flare. It helps to calm the dryness.
Zantac isn't a real strong acid controller, Nexium, Protonix, Prevacid and other PPI's are stronger. You have to take them every day too.
I am also sun sensitive. Sorry you have a problem with the medications. That's really awful. Do you feel like you have a good rheumatologist? Motrin can be hard on the stomach as well. Good luck to you!
