Hi there,

I am a spouse of a bipolar disorder, manic depressive, obsessive compulsive husband. I have been dealing with this for approximately ten years. Right now, I feel burned out, with no emotions but "OK, here we go again" attitude. We are now going for marriage counseling. I need help to understand what triggers him and what to do about it. yiayia

Hi there YiaYiast,

Welcome to HealingWell and the Bipolar Board. Tell us a little more about your husband. Which does he seem to have more trouble with, manias or depressions? When do you notice them starting -- what makes him stress out?

YY, I too am a spouse and you are not alone. Although I do not have time to give too much input at this time, suffice it to say that while my H's dx is not seemingly as severe as yours (mine is a BPII, rr), dealing with BP is dealing with BP. I do understand the feeling of burned out, frustration, flattening out our own emotions to cope so we don't in some ways take the ride with them....but, not feeling is not an option either or we start to not feel alive. SO...I suggest you look at some of my past posting as I must sign off right now...but it will give you some support in the meantime. I'll try and write more later...just know...you are NOT alone and we are here for you....WELCOME to the family. You will learn a lot here, get a lot of support here from both BP's, as well as other spouses. I came here when I felt a lot like you. I am better now in many ways. Gotta run...Hugs...LFW
