I was diagnosed with soft bipolar last year and am currently having my meds being monitored by a Psychiatric Pharmacologist. He has me on 200 mg Seroquel, 200 mg Lamictal and 60 mg Cymbalta and 4 mg of Cyproheptadine to tamp down the vivid dreams so my sleep is better than it ever had been in years. With all of that though my weight gain was starting to get out of control so Topamax was added to my regimen. He started it at 25mg morning and bedtime the first week to 50mg in the morning 50mg at bed time and this week 75mg morning to 75mg bedtime..... next week will be 100mg morning and evening same thing. The problem is that I'm experiencing the worst nightmares I've ever experienced.  I'm hearing voices like a radio is playing.  I'm experiencing  being stalked in the dark and seeing things in the dark that aren't really there. I'm clinging to my poor husband's hand and have to sleep with the light on something I've never done. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this on Topamax. I've heard alot of good things about this drug. Ive heard that this drug is prescribed for migranes but Ive been waking up with the worst headaches in the morning since starting this drug. I want to give it a chance because I realise that sometimes these symptoms sometimes go away after a while I'd like to get a little feedback before I totally give up on it.

Hi missdaisy,

Welcome to HealingWell and to the bipolar board.

I'm on topomax and haven't experienced anything like what you're having (thankfully.) But everyone's different, of course. Topomax is supposed to double as a migraine drug, though, as you mentioned, and if you're having terrible headaches, I'd definitely mention that to your doc. Poor thing. Don't let it go on too long. Troubled sleep can make bipolar much worse.
