Any suggestions...

I have a history of being depressed, which goes back years and years. I have been on numerous antidepressants that "poop out." I have now been on Lamictal for almost a year, Zoloft and had Wellbutrin added a few months ago because I was still depressed. Two weeks ago, I became severly depressed and felt as if I was on no meds again...Are there any suggestions out there? I know Lamictal is supposed to be the best mood stabilizer for depression, but its not helping...I only become slightly hypomanic at times, but my depression is horrible (on and off) despite taking Lamictal 250mg with both Zoloft 150mg and Wellbutrin 150mg.

I go to the pdoc next Friday and wanted some feedback to take to him...Please help cry cry

Medication works different for everyone and you need to work with your pdoc to find the right cocktail for you and sometimes it takes quite a long time.

Please don't get discouraged.  It is worth it to be very diligent.  It pays off in the long run.

What worked for me was 2 things.  First depakote ( but for me that made me gain weight.)  I am currently on trileptal and there is a generic for it as well and that has FINALLY worked for me.

Keep working with you pdoc.  Eventually you will find the right one and there are MANY for your pdoc to choose from.

Keep up the good fight! blush

Thanks for the reply!

So are you on both Depakote and Trileptal now? Or you were on Depakote in the past? Did the Depakote help you with depression?

Hi nurseJ,

Welcome to HealingWell and to the bipolar board. Sukay had very wise advice for you. I too am depressive, but I'm on a pretty extensive cocktail. Everyone is different.

Lamictal is the best for depression, but you're not on the highest dosage yet, so there's room to move there. Other mood stabilizers might work better anyway. And there are tons more anti-depressants to try. Don't give up hope yet. Tell the doc exactly what you've told us, and he/she will try and take care of you.

Good luck,
