Hello... as suggested by the site I thought I would introduce myself I am a 32 year old woman who suffers from bipolar and depression. I have had two manic episodes both within the past five years which have required hospitalization. The hospital stays were less than pleasant... I find myself in a deep depression and am trying to figure out how to get out of it and get my life back. Any advice is welcome... thanks.

Get a psychiatrist and a therapist. Try to motivate yourself to excersize (that might help). Get a hobby too, just something to get your mind off it. Take baby steps to get your life back. Rome wasn't built in a day, ya know? Take one day at a time. If your meds aren't working, let your doctor know. It sounds like something isn't working. I don't know enough of your history, but if your on meds, they aren't working properly. If you're not on meds, you should really consider it. Meds don't solve the problem completely, you have to put in a reasonable amount of effort. I am by no means an expert. I suffer from GAD, and I've just been taking baby steps to get my life back.

I can recommend one hobby to get into: watching movies! They help me a lot, maybe they will help you too. Do some fun stuff once in a while too if you don't already.  Don't be too hard on yourself.  It's not the end of the world, but rather a beginning where things that you do from this point on will only make things better.

Hope I helped!

Hi, I'm a new member, too. I think a lot of the regular members have been offline this past week, so I wanted to welcome you even though I'm so new that feels a little silly (like I'm too new to welcome someone else).

I'm sorry you are having a rough patch. Have you talked with a doctor about your recent symptoms? If this depression doesn't pass soon it might be that you need to have your meds changed a bit.

Raze mentioned that as well as exercise. That can be so important -- and about the very last thing I feel like doing when I'm really low. If you can pull yourself up, put on a baseball cap (I'm assuming you have bad hair like I do when I'm really down) and just walk around the block. Or down the block and back home.

Tell yourself you can do one 10-minute task. Sometimes once you start something your get-up-and-go comes back. If it doesn't, don't beat yourself up. You are doing the best you can to manage a complex chemical inbalance.

Hang in there and let us know how you are doing!
