New restrictive diet bringing me down

I have just started a gluten-free diet for my health.  It might improve my RA condition and the GI problems that seem to be aggravated by taking so many pills.  I'm on day 4.  It means that I cannot eat anything with wheat, rye, barley or oats.  (Do you know how many things have hidden gluten in them?  It's everywhere!)
The problem is that I have to restrict so many of my favorite foods.  Dumplings, crusty bread, cookies- these are my comfort foods!  I have to make a major life change and I can't even have any of my comfort foods.
Today I felt myself near tears as I had to turn down doughnuts at church and cook myself separate foods than my family because the food I had in the house had gluten in it. I have to figure out a way to convince my pastor to include gluten-free communion wafers because communion today gave me such a stomachache.
I realized that I won't be able to partake in any of the holiday treats because all my favorites have flour in them. 
I feel like I am giving up so much, but I can't control it because I have to make this change to maintain my health.  I keep getting sicker and sicker and I am so out of control and it drives me crazy!
When I could't control my moods and emotions or even my thoughts, and my body seemed to turn against me, and I couldn't work or go to school anymore, and we ran out of money and had to cut out so many things to save money I could at least control what I ate.  At the very least I could control what I put in my mouth.  I don't even get to do that anymore.
I feel like Job.
Anyway, I'm ranting.  I will go to bed and hopefully wake up in a better mood.  Maybe I will read Job in the morning and realize that I don't have it that bad.
How do you r keep yourself from feeling sorry for yourself and letting it drag you down?  Expcially when it is something that makes "normal" people feel bad?  How do you keep yourself from letting it get out of control?
Even though I do not understand where I am going on the path that God has laid out for me, I must submit to His plan and trust that He will take me where I need to be. 
Current medications:
Bipolar treatment-Lamictal, 200mg, Mood stabelizer, daily(main side effect: brain fog) Bipolar treatment-Cymbalta, 40mg, Antidepressant, daily(main side effect: GI upset, decreased clotting, insominia) Anemia, Fatigue treatment- Iron supplement, 65mg, daily(main side effect: constipation) Insominia treatment- Ambien, 10mg, daily(main side effect: amnesia eppisodes between taking pill and falling asleep) Mania treatment- Alprazolam, .25mg, Very rarely(main side effect: fatigue, slowing of thoughts, depression of CNS, can't take ambien or vicodin when on it) RA treatment- Plaquenil, 400mg, daily(main side effect: GI upset, decreased clotting) RA treatment- Methotrexate, 25mg, 1X weekly(main side effects: hair loss, stomach upset, mouth sores, sore muscles, fatigue, brain fog, compromised immune system, decreased Folic Acid absorption) GI upset treatment- Leucovorin Calcium, 10mg 1x weekly(main side effects: ?) Folic Acid defintioncy- Folic Acid, 1mg, daily(main side effects: ?) Multi-mineral Supplement (main side effects: constipation, GI upset) Constipation treatment- Docusate Sodium, 200mg, daily(main side effects:?) pain control- Motrin, 800mg, PRN Q6hours daily(main side effects: GI upset, decreased clotting) Pain Control- Vicodin, 5-500mg, PRN Q12hours 3-4 times weekly (main side effects: brain fog, fatigue)

I know how hard this is Christina. I've had to make major diet changes before, and it's really hard and disheartening. But hang in there. Start by replacing some of your favorite foods with gluten-free alternatives. You can make gluten-free cookies, right? I know there are mixes in my grocery store. But it's not the same, I know. You will get used to it, though. Give yourself time and don't beat yourself up.

Christina, I know this is hard but take this opportunity to eat healthier and pass this way of life on to your family.  We have a market in our area called "Earth Fare," and they do not carry anything with gluten, additives, chemical preservatives, they have a deli and a bakery and their items are very, very yummy.  I bet if you can make this change, you will feel better and be healthier, though I know it will be a challenge.  Good luck and I bet you can find cook books out now that teach you how to make all those things you love, just a little differently.  I also know about having to do without and making hugh scarifices.  It is like once you get passed that point, you never want to return.  Hope this post finds you feeling better..........You will be OK, I promisewink
