For those out there like me starting a new drug, here's what I've experienced so far.
My pdoc told me to take the medication an hour before bed. (50mg or up it to 100mg as needed) I usually have to take ambien to sleep but I didn't take it. (she said I may not need it)
within 45 min I could barely function, there was no staying awake. When I layed down, my chest felt heavy and breathing felt strange almost struggling. I'm asthmatic so I'm no stranger to feeling that way when I have an attack. (but it wasn't an attack). After I knocked out I didn't wake up until 6am. A little groggy but no real lingering effects. The second night was pretty much the same except I woke up at 3am because the tv was on and loud, then again at 7:00am.
I don't feel any change on the emotional front....still wanting to cry or get angry at the drop of a hat. Only time will tell if that changes.
I don't really understand the idea of taking an extra one at night if your having a bad day. I understand it when you're taking something that sets in right then, like Xanax or something. But why with something that you only take once a day at night? Also with the way it knocks me out, I'm a little scared to take a second one. Idk....
Anyways....that's what's going on with me.

50 or 100mg isn't a high enough dose to really be effective.. your doctor will probably increase it to at least 200mg. the thing with seroquel is that it is not like an anxiety drug. you can't take a certain dose 'as needed'. you have to take the same exact dose every night at the same exact time or it doesnt work. i started off taking it 200mg a night, then 300mg a night, then 400mg a night, then back down to 200mg depending on the day i was having. then i realized that flip-flopping the dose was actually causing all of my mood swings. now i stay at 300 every single night and i very rarely take it late. it'll take about 2-3 weeks before you feel any better but after about a week of getting lots of sleep you should see improvement anyways.
i'm a crazy french girl with bp II
i take 300mg of seroquel every night and 0.5mg of ativan.
