Hi all,

So I have developed memory loss and impairment that seems to be due to ECT. I had 23 treatments from April to December of this past year (Im on a little hiatus) and now i have severe memory loss. I have patchy recollection of the past 10 years and about half of the time I can remember something if someone really jogs my memory. I also have trouble short term, hours and even minutes after something has happened I cannot remember much.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I am probably going to have to start treatment back up shortly but I am torn, as I want it to get better not worse. And the problems all started a few months after treatment started.

any ideas?

hi bunnypucker,

i too have had ECT, back in 2004. i suffered with short term residual loss for awhile, it did pick up, basically i have an intermittent form of memory loss. as soon as i was picking up my memory did likewise. talk with your psychiatrist. maybe it is time for maintenance ECT rather than a course or courses. with healing compassion, jamie

jamiee,

I also think maintenence would be best. We tried that over the year but had to do more severe treatment a second time so the idea was a bust. Thank you for the reply!

I I could just get more spaced out treatment and then not lose any more, that would be great. /along my hiatus I have gained back a little bit but hopefully with time itll be more.

jamie,
I was just wondering... is there anything that you did to make your memory come back faster or better?

yes. beleive it or not walking and poetry.

journaling helps too. when small memories come write them down, they can be expanded on later.

hoping this helps. jamie.
