Hi,

I've been taking 350 mg of seroquel xr for two years now. I'm trying to get off it due to weight gain (about 50 lbs). I have read some nasty stuff about getting off, so I plan to taper slowly, especially once the dose gets lower, to avoid withdrawal symptoms. But I'm wondering if I can cut the dose in half right away and then hang out at a lower dose for a while (like maybe to 200 overnight). Does anyone have experience with this?

Also, I am planning to start taking cannabis oil to help me sleep. It is legal where I am. Does anyone have experience with this in combination with seroquel or to help with withdrawal symptoms?

Thanks!

Hi akp48,

Welcome to the forum!

Please be sure to wean off the Seroquel together with your doctor. Everyone is different so everyone may be affected differently. Most recommend that one lower the dosage slowly to lessen the side effects. Please be sure to liaise with your doctor and let them know of any severe symptoms you may experience while coming off.

I wish you all the best on the switch.

I was on Seroquel anti-depressant about 3 years ago, but only for about 5 or 6 days, because it got me going too much. Now I'm on Mirtazapine anti-dep.

I'm sure the moment I wanted off the Seroquel my psy. said, OK, but tonight I want you to try this other anti-dep.

In other words, there was no drop off. I immediately went on another anti-dep.

Are you going off your current anti-dep., but not going on another one? Are you cured of dep?

Second, what I use to go to sleep is a health food store supplement called Power to Sleep. I take one pill, and if I needed to I could take a 2nd one because the bottle says 1 to 2 pills at night.

There are also several other health food store nutritional supplements which you can see on the shelf, or the clerk can tell you about, or you can look up and possibly order on the net.

Seroquel is not an anti depressant tim tam, it is an anti psychotic, and one that is very saturating on the brain and very strong. very slow wean. and under strict medical guidance. I would not halve it immediately, and unless the doc recommends it I would not recommend medical marijuana either. we as people need to retrain our brain for sleep processes, and this is where sleep hygiene works. Seroquel will take quite awhile to fully leave your system.
