Hi! I normally post on the Lyme forum. I'm here with a question on a medication because I think it is more commonly used in this group -- I hope that's OK!

I was prescribed Lamictal this week for neurological Lyme symptoms they think are caused by inflammation of some part of the nervous system. (Unfortunately don't remember exactly what part she said.) I took 25 mg at 7 p.m. Shortly after I took it, I felt it kick in -- waves of scary weird feelings in my head and a pounding heart. It did seem to help as the next morning, I was able to drive without problem for the first time since this started. But then at 1 p.m., I suddenly felt like I was going to pass out, and I was on the edge of unconsciousness for more than an hour despite laying down. (I have passed out numerous times before, but it's always been a quick thing.) My interpretation was that the inflammation returned as the medicine wore off, causing that problem. I went to the ER as it wouldn't stop and I started shaking and feeling like I was having trouble breathing. It finally just went away, and the doctor there said it might be a side effect even though it was the next day. Has anyone experienced this before? Any idea what that might have been? (Haven't heard back from the prescribing doctor yet.)

I guess I should have mentioned this is cross-posted. (They recommended that I post here.)

Hi Dahlias,

I've never used Lamictal, Sorry I can't be of much help to you.

But remember that everyone is different, so you may experience different side effects from someone else. If you are not feeling well, please don't drive. Stay put, or if you are driving, be sure to pull aside for safety. We don't want anything to happen to you while you are driving my friend.

I hope the side effects will lessen soon. Hope your doc also responds to you.

Thanks so much! I'm being careful about driving -- I'm mostly getting rides these days. I only try it if I'm feeling well, and I don't hesitate to pull over or turn around if I start feeling off. I don't want to endanger myself or anyone else.

I never did hear back from that doctor, but I visited my PCP. He thought Lamictal could be useful and agreed with my idea of dividing the dose in half between morning and evening. Now to get brave enough to try it again!
