My brother (28) has been complaining for years of chronic fatigue type smptoms.  He swore he has rheumatic fever (joints ached, low grade fever, etc.).  He had blood work done, on 1/4/07 that came back with EBV Ab VCA IgG 2199 (i think that positive is over 120).  He had been feeling awful for months before, with body pain, low grade fever etc.  A few days after this, he developed psychosis which has lasted for about six months.  He is still coming out of it and is just  coming home today after three weeks in the psychiatric ward of the hospital.  He has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia (this is the first psychotic break that we have been able to identify).  Although he has displayed bi-polar like symptoms in the past, I am having a difficult time accepting this diagnosis.  Does anyone know if threre might be a relationship.  he has had mono in the past and has been complaining of mono type symptms in the the past.  He is HIV negative.  Any thoughts??

After reading through some articles, here is what I found about the virus (mono) you brother was diagnosed for.
Your brother has been complaining of chronic fatigue type symptoms and joints ached, low grade fever, etc.  From what I have read in the online articles, those are symptoms of mono.  It is possible but rare to developed psychosis with mono.  But you said that your brother has been dignosed for paranoid schizophrenia is the the biggest thing here.  I am not a Dr. or trained proffesional so I really can't give you the diagnosis.  I hope things get straightened out soo for you and your brother.
