Antidepressants are often used in combination with other drugs in BP. Taken alone they sometimes trigger a manic phase. I take Wellbutrin, which is also an AD but I take other meds as well that keep me stable, and prevent a phase shift.
Good judgement comes from experience and alot of that comes from bad judgement.

Hi gary my son(9) was put on Remeron 22 mg @ night about 8 weeks ago due to continued panic episodes, hallucinations, etc. AD,s have to be carefully considered due to their tendency to bring on mania. Well that's exactly what happened in a huge way. So now we've been trying to get that under control for the past 6weeks and just now are beginning to slow him down some so I must say it has been a rollercoaster ride. He takes numerous other meds also for his BP and ADHD. The Remeron definitly stopped the symptoms for which it was intended but the mania has been as high as any episodes he's ever had. I think our Pdoc would just have to monitor you very carefully for any changes if you were needing this combination. Good luck and best wishes.
