Today I learned much more about my family's history with breast cancer. I knew that my paternal grand mother had it, but I didn't know that these members of that family also did: her sister [my paternal great aunt], her niece [my paternal 2nd cousin], her daughter [my paternal aunt], and another paternal great aunt]. This is all that I know of. The CDC classifies contagious health outbreaks as "clusters". Is the same true of BC? I had a biopsy in early 2007 that showed calcifications and I will continue on 6 mo mammos till they tell me not to. Can any data be collected at this point about this family history? It seems extreme to me that so many in one family can deal with this. Any thoughts? And thank you for your listening.

Sure there is all kinds of family history information relating to breast cancer. There is a board just for BRCA genetic discussion. Too early in the morning and my old brain is not connecting well enough to remember the address. It was begun by a lovely lady, Sue in Florida. She has done much work and helped with various groups studying and meeting to discuss family genes. OK It finally came to me the group is called FORCE. I am sure if you google FORCE you will find it. Not only family history of breast cancer figures in but also other related cancers in a family group. Rather than give you any misinformation, I will simply say that there is a Jewish group where the BRCA is very prevalent. I don't think there is any contagious classification for breast cancer. Calcification clusters can pinpoint breast cancer, so be sure to have mammos!!!! Hope all goes well! Hugs MK

Here's the link for FORCE. Sue is great and has lots of solid information about genetic issues. With your family history it might be worth checking into. Good luck. Lauri (dxed 4/11/96)
