Hi everyone, I hope someone can give me insight to a situation I am going through.
In January of 2006,at 39 years old, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I underwent 2 surgeries, radiation and chemo and have been cancer free since then. Yay! I go for regular check ups with my oncologist, etc...
Well, I had my yearly mammogram last week and was called back for further slides yesterday. Of course that was scary enough but after 3 more slides and an ultrasound, the radiologist told me that I need to have an ultrasound guided needle biopsy done to determine exactly what the nodule is that they found. She said that it is 5mm to 6mm in size, has a smooth, round shape and is located right in front of the muscle in my left breast. I haven't had any symptoms at all and the lump can't be felt because it's so small and far back behind the breast. The thing that makes it suspicious is that it wasn't on my mammo from last year.
I am trying not to freak out and mantain a positive attitude, but the thought of the "C" word AGAIN makes my blood run cold.
If anyone has had a similar experience or knows anything about risks of breast cancer after cervical cancer or if you just have advice, PLEASE feel free to reply to this. I need all the info I can get!
Thanks everyone!

Sorry it took so long for an answer to you! Getting ready for Thanksgiving sort of took up my energies! First of all your doctor should be commended for being cautious and careful in your care. The US needle biopsy will give valuable information about what sounds like a very early stage if it is indeed cancer. Next to the muscle is a rather critical area for surgery, preferably keeping from any removable of muscle. 5-6 mm is very small!!! 2.54 cm equals 1 inch.

There is a connection between breast cancer and cervical, uterine, ovarian cancers. I was diaagnosed with breast cancer in 96, my older daughter was dx in 99 and after eight years a recurrence has put her in Stage IV. My younger daughter has been watched by a breast specialisst very carefully ever since. Yet her regular PAP test came back just a few weeks ago showing granular cells that are cancer. She now has an appointment with a GYN oncologist for the 16 of this month. Maybe you can give me some information about what she should expect.

Keep in touch and keep us informed as to what is happening with you.

There is no familial link between cervical and breast cancer.  Only between ovarian and uterine.  My younger sister had cervical cancer at 30 and my other sister had breast cancer at 32.  My mother passed away from ovarian cancer last month.  My risk is only affected by the ovarian and the breast.  I had a six month watch on my left breast and grew a 2 cm tumor in that period. It was not there at my last mammogram.  I had the ultrasound needle biopsy and found it to be a lot easier to tolerate than the wire needle (done while you are in the mammogram machine) or the stereotactic biopsy (done while you are lying on a table with your breast hanging through a hole, kinda like an oil change).  The best thing to do is get the biopsy done and find out what you are dealing with.  It is not easy to wait for news, as you know and cancer scares everyone once they have been affected by it.  I wish you well and will keep you in my prayers.
