Well, the dreaded biopsy results are in. Even though I was prepared, when I heard the news it was like a huge punch in the stomach. My poor mom had to try to calm me down. I'm sure you've all been there with that emotion.

I'm confused by the pathology report. Sounds like I have 2 cancers ?? Does anyone have any experience with this?

"infiltrating moderately differentiated ductal carcinoma with focal intermediate grade ductal carcinoma in situ"

I know in situ is good, right? but isn't infiltrating when it has left "in situ" ??

Wednesday at 2:30 I'm having a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. On Saturday the packers come for 3 days, then the movers, and then we drive up to NJ on Friday, 4/8. I see a radiation oncologist (Libby have you heard of Dr. Gallagher?) on 4/15. moving in the middle of all of this is defintely not recommended!

I guess no matter what I have to be concerned with the surgeon getting clean margins and lymph node involvement. I guess this has only just begun. Not a good day, for sure.

Hugs to you all,

Hi Laure'-
Here is what I think it means....the cancer is invasive (infiltrating) ductal carcinoma, but parts of it may have been in-situ. I do not think it means 2 cancers, just 2 different stages of the same cancer. Just my hypothesis, so please ask the doc. The rad onc will want the results of everything before making decisions, as he may recommend further surgery or chemo. I saw an onc and rad onc pretty quickly after diagnosis, as a consult....then I went back to see him after chemo.
Well, the good news is the move can take your mind of the cancer? I know, just a stretch. You will find strength you never knew you had, and we'll be here for ya...

Oh Laure, take a deep breath.  You really have a lot happening all at once.  I'm sorry I can't help with the path report (I didn't get mine until 3 years after my operation).
I'm sure you'll get more replies.  Sorry, I haven't heard of Dr. Gallagher.  My radiation was done in Morristown and I'm not familiar with that name.
We'll be with you on Wednesday and through your treatment, pink boas and all.  Please, please, please remember to take it easy after the surgery, no lifting during the move.  Lean on the love around you.  Hugs, Libby

Friends are God's way of taking really good care of us.

Hi Laure! I am so sorry that your news was not good. Hearing that you have cancer really is a shock. But, you have to remember that bc is beatable. Lots of the women here are longtime survivors. At least now you know some of the results. You aren't totally in the dark. Start writing down any and all questions that you want answers to. No matter how trivial. Get those answers!

Having to move in the middle of dealing with your news is really tough but it will help you keep your mind occupied. And that is something that we all try to do. I may have missed something in another post, but are you moving far from the medical team that you have now?

Take care. We are all here for you. Keep your eyes peeled for those pink feathers that will be floating all around you.
