Went to a regular physician, figured I really needed to see one regularly anyhow...explained the episode with the facial paralysis and speech articulation difficulties 3 weeks after a tick bite and 48 hrs after my 1st walk on the treadmill in months.  (On the day i walked on the treadmill for 15 mins, i also had 2 meals of that slim fast powder (which is the FIRST TIME i've ever done that)...and i had noticed on the can that it said '45% less sugar"....great, i thought, they most likely boosted the aspartamane in it, which i totally avoid usually. but i drank it anyway, since it was a brand new can.)
ANYWAY, he did an ekg right there in the office...said i have an occasional extra heart beat, but it's ok, normal nothing to worry about...said everything looks healthy...coronary and coratid arteries look/feel ok... he is sending me for a ct scan of the head next week.
he is thinking (in this order) possibly 1) mild stroke due to come unknown cause (maybe the aspartamane)
2) brain mets or 3) lyme or rocky mountain spotted fever.
I am obviously hoping for 3. or maybe 1, but not 2! We just have to wait and see.  you know that 'ol routine.
so far it has not happened again, i do feel fine... he said if it were brain mets i probably wouldn't have improved so quickly after the episode... he said he would do some research on the aspartamane thing... i did and BOY is that bad stuff.  can i sue them?!?! ha.
anyway thanks so much for listening to me..... i was really flipping out.
ps- Race For The Cure tomorrow am! YAY!  i raised $1500+ from my office! yipee!!

Good for you Stef, glad you took the plunge. I vote for #3 too! I agree that if it were brain mets you would have more chronic symptoms instead of just 1 time. Of course I am not a doc, but you know how we just know....

And that is AWESOME about raising that much money! yea for you! I am walking in our RFTC tomorrow too, but I do not raise money for this. I have done the Lee Denim Day fundraiser for the last few years, still never got $1500!

Hang in there!

Stef:  I am sooooo glad that you finally got in to see your dr. I am equally glad that you haven't had any more symptoms. Sounds as though you are going to be checked for everything possible. I agree that it really doesn't sound like brain mets. I am still willing to bet that the stress caused some TIA's. Please be careful and don't overdo for the next few weeks. Is your physician in touch w/ your onco?

Stef, I don't want to alarm you but I have been very, very close to Rocky Mtn and if that were the problem, you would be very ill with tell-tale red spots on the palms of your hands.

Based on what I went through, I still have to vote for #1. What you experienced is exactly how my series of strokes started. But, if he checked the carotids and found them clear, let's hope it's a one-shot deal.

Love, Jo-Ann

I have nothing to add except to let you know how impressed I am with your fundraising. As for what number to pick I just hope what ever it is, I hope we can file this under the pork chop bone pile. I am thinking of you. L&H Joyce

Sounds like your Dr. is ON it and will explore what in the world went on for you - good.  My brother in law was having an occasional seizure a few years back and was able to trace it to that sweetner in his diet. Once he removed more seizures.  I am hoping that number 1, with a connection to the sweetner, is all it was.  Here is an interesting link with a post from a Dr. regarding Pilots and problems they were having in the consumption of diet drinks, etc. Some of it sounds a whole lot like what you experienced (but your Doc will be the final answer on that of course).  It's interesting reading anyway since it explains neurological effects in an understandable way.
Congrats on your amazing fundraising for RFTC ~ Joany

Oh, Stef, glad you got into see a doctor about your symptoms. And, I am glad to see that he is following up with tests to find out exactly what happened. I hope that whatever it was, you have no further episodes. Stay well. Hugs, Lauri

I'm glad that you finally got to go to your doc.  I'm sure he/she will follow up until you are both satisfied that you know what is going on.  We're not even thinking of choice #2.

Will keep you in my prayers!!!

Stef: Great job on the fund raising. RFTC is a awesome event. My family and I did the race in Columbus in May. I vote for number #3 too. Actually I hope it was just a burp in time that will not repeat. Prayers are with you.
