I was watching CNN and a dr gave a report regarding acid reflux. Evidently, it has been found that individuals that chew gum for 30 mins after each meal have less acid reflux problems than those that don't. Okay, why not give it a try? Beats having to take meds constantly to correct the problem.

Anymore I have become a real cynic about the Health News, as they call it. I just heard that cure/prevention to breast cancer and prostate cancer may be in your kitchen spice cabinet. The only "spice" I really remember hearing as I saw red was tumeric. Yeah right, let's all eat spices. As for chewing gum, I am sure it does help some people, peppermint mints have also been known to be of help. But usually GERD is caused by something that is beyond gum. Mine is caused by a hiatal hernia and I suffered for years without knowing what it was. Prilosec, Prevacid, and Acifex all gave me back my life. The reason I know about all of them is because my insurance company has changed brands on me four times, I am back to Prevacid for the second time. LOL. Now they are fooling with my BP medicine. I love it. Chuckling, MK

PS Yesterday's health news said that it was best for women who have had a mastectomy to get right back to exercising as in on the treadmill, etc., not arm exercises. Yeah let's all line up for the exercise mill.

I had acid reflux from chemo, and took Rx Pepcid, also took Mylanta for a week each cycle. I still chuckle at the thought of the RN advising me to eat bland one night I had eggs and cottage cheese....and at age 31 thought I had turned into my grandmother! But the other funny part was when I ate a salami sandwich, and it about killed me. I laugh now because I learned then that avoiding spices meant avoiding seasoning....not just hot Thai food.

Ahh, the things we learned from cancer!

I, too, am dubious about the Health News.  Remember when aspirin lowered your risk of bc?  Well, I could have told them that was false.  I've taken Goody's forever (bad for your stomach, I know) and I had bc twice.  I've also taken a lot of ibuprofen.  Still had bc.  I guess maybe they really "don't know" how to prevent it.  confused    Just wish they would keep there little theories to themselves until proven....but oh well.
