Hi there,
This is my first time on this forum (although a frequent visitor to the Prostate Cancer forum since DH was diagnosed last January...) So call me panicky, but with 2 children under 6, I'm not anxious for any added stress. eyes
This week I found a horizontal, fixed, hard, bumpy lump in my right armpit (in the bottom where all diagrams appear to show that "tail" of breast tissue extends).
I am NOT a panicky person by nature, actually I'm quite cool under pressure---but this one has me VERY scared. I have no other symptoms, and no other lumps that I can detect. I know it is NOT a swollen lympnode,or infected cyst---have experience with those-- although I have begun a 2 week course of antibiotics that I have on hand (as I know that will be the Dr's first solution----remember I went through all of this last year with DH, so very familiar with the drill...)
Of course I have the entire armpit irritated from poking at it...no point telling me to stop... rolleyes .

The main problem is that I am on vacation in Florida, and all the Urgent Care clinics I have contacted have told me that they can't send me for the probably needed MRI or US due to my being Canadian and having no primary dr here, and by the time I get lined up with one, I'll be gone back north---to the land of 9 month waits for scans. mad

Has anyone had anything similar that had a positive outcome other then BC....because I really can't imagine it could be anything other then that.

Thanks for listening:)

Ashley

Ashley,
So we meet again. I am also on the PC forum a lot and just read a reply to my post on there tonight from you. Have you had any previous biopsies before on that breast? Needle or surgical? I've had two biopsies on left breast the most recent last year after a needle biopsy came back w/ atypical cells. Yes it can be something else. Mine turned out to be a necrosis. This year on mammo I got a call back area of suspicion, 3D mammo and US performed, I go back in 3 months to see if it has changed. The pea size lump is right above where my biopsy was from last year. Have you tried evening primrose and vitamin E. My breast oncologist who performed my surgery last year immediately put me on that and it dramatically helped mine that was sore from all the poking and prodding. After my biopsy I went off of them but w/ the recent problems have just started back. Like you I think I have mine irritated from constantly poking and prodding at it. So to go back to the question, yes it can be something other than breast cancer. We seriously need to connect because we have so much in common it's scary with our husbands and having small children. Anyway, any more questions or need to talk holler at me. Miki

Hi Miki:)
Thanks for the advice! I will definitely try those.
I just came from the Dr here in Canada---flew home last night....and she has requested an appointment for an Ultrasound, mammo and an appointment with a surgeon just in case....meanwhile, she couldn't even find the lump (which has now become 2 lumps...) one is on top of the other...the top one is movable, so you have to actually moe it aside to feel the hard, bumpy attached lump underneath, so I had to show her, and then she got it. My nerves! lol.
Basically she said, we don't screw around with armpit lumps---ever. She also marked everything as urgent, so hoping to get in within 2 weeks....if she hadn't marked urgent, then she said it would be over a year. Welcome to our wonderful health care system!!!

So---this lump is getting larger--now my same side boob is aching. Hurts to lie on at night...and the axilla has puckered over the lump, and same side nipple has a prominent vein protruding. Yep. None of it sounds promising.
And to add insult to injury, they cancelled the Dr ordered mammo (as clearly I'm too young to have BC) and my urgent U/S is scheduled for jan 14! That is almost 8 weeks from when I first saw the Dr.
Still jealous of that Free Canadian medical???
At this point, I just have to assume the worst, and feel like I already know that this is cancer (because from what i can tell, there is nothing else it could possibly be) and I am assuming it has spread.

Ashley,
Just checking in w/ you. The veins on the side where I have my lump are prominent also (not on nipple area but close to underarm area) but it comes and goes (last time I had breast issues they were doing this). Calm down! It's nothing until they say it's something. I'm so sorry you are having to wait to get your mammo done. Were they also going to do an ultrasound? (I know big help that would do since they won't even get you in for your mammo). Just know I'm thinking of you. Try some of the evening primrose for the pain and aching. Give it several weeks to work. ~Miki~
