So she was told after calcification biopsy that she has C
The surgeon we met with today said it “ is contained “ and he recommended a lumpectomy .
Then pill for five years and radiation.
But he said .. some people are doing just the pill , some are opting for the pill and lumpectomy but no radiation with good results ..
She is thinking of the lumpectomy and the pill ..
Any feedback is appreciated

I was diagnosed in April of 2017 with a stage 2 small lump. I had the lumpectomy and after 4 weeks or so, had 16 radiation treatments. Everything went very well and I just had an exam and I'm cancer free. The radiation treatments were actually pleasurable. I was asked what music I would like to listen to (I asked for 'Journey'). Each treatment for me was 20 minutes. I was in and out and went straight to work (physically demanding). After about the 12th radiation session, I was more tired but that's normal. I still worked but shorter days. I'm glad I went through with this.

My breast cancer was contained too. I got the five year pill too and did 20 radiation treatments. We had music too which was nice.

I didn't mind the radiation at all. I drove myself to every therapy session.

Hugs, Karen...

PS Mine was last year. 2021,

BTW, I elected NOT to take the prescription meds, after my treatment.

Hi Liliana,
I was diagnosed with a lump on my right breast during a routine exam by my GYN. He said it was small and easily treated. I had a biopsy right after a mammogram. The lump was invasive carcinoma, 3.0cm. No lymph node involvement. Lump close to skin and well defined.

I did not need chemotherapy, but did receive a total of 16 radiation treatments.

I had the lumpectomy on May 2, 2017. My Oncotypoe DX Test Result was a `6’; very low and indicates that there is a very low chance of recurrence of breast cancer.

I am coming up on 5 years, on May 2, 2022. I did NOT use the 5-year medication.
There is so much 'medical technical information', that I could not decide what might be most important to you, so I hope the above info is helpful.

My care with Henry Ford Medical System (I live in a suburb of Detroit, MI) was excellent! Great doctors with the latest technology in detection of breast cancer. I never had a problem getting care when I needed it.

Hi Linda Sue again...

I am in Michigan too. I went to Seton Cancer Center for my radiation last year. I am doing the hormone therapy. I see my oncologist on Wednesday next week. I don't like the hormones but they are supposed to help. I am going to discuss it with her on Wednesday as I am having a lot of side effects. But it is better than not being alive. Or getting the cancer back.

I want to congratulate you on your 5 years. You will technically be a cancer survivor!!! I will be thinking of you on the 2nd.

Hugs, Karen...

Thank you!
I must reiterate that the HRT I use is 'bio-identical' and made by a compounding pharmacy. NOT pharmaceutical grade that will most likely have side effects.

It depends on patient's age and type and aggressiveness of the cancer what treatment should be taken.

I went with lumpectomy, rads and hormone treatment with my first breast cancer. I wished later that I had only had the lumpectomy. The rads had horrible side effects, cooked the lump area like a piece of microwaved chicken. Hormones made me feel like death was the equivalent of life, so I quit after a year. I found out later that that it wasn't necessary at my advanced age.

For my second bout ten years later, I had the lumpectomy and was going to go with rads, but the surgery left me wanting revision, which can't be done after that. So I had the revision and am just hoping it won't come back. My rad oncologist said it wouldn't make any difference in survival!

Both my cancers were IDC, low oncotypes. That makes a huge difference! I was on Medicare for the first one already, and that makes a difference too! Consulting with the various specialists is important. Reading everything from reliable sources helps, but don't rely on blogs and people on forums like me.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm going through a similar thing with someone close to me. I think the best thing you could give her right now is your support. Even if you think she has given up on the idea of fighting the cancer, your wife still needs you to make sure she has the quality of life she deserves. Whether one chooses aggressive treatment or not, simply the ordeal of having cancer is difficult and your emotional support can make a huge difference.
