Hi all,
If I am posting this in the wrong forum I really apogize and if someone could direct me to which forum I need to post this in I would really be grateful.

I have a question about immune systems. I was diagnosed with Hodgkins disease 4 years ago. I then went through 6 months of chemotherapy and have been in remmision and good health since then. My question concerns my immune system post-remission. Was my immune system very weak before I developed cancer? And thus was the reason I got hodgkins disease and if so does it remain weak even though I have been 3 years in remission? I never get sick but really need to know the answer to this question. Any knowledge would really help me out or if anyone knows of a website where this can be answered would be great. Thanks for your time!!

Congratulations on your remission! I don't think there is a specific forum for your question and the best place to get an answer would be your oncologist. I can offer an opinion based on some relevant observations. There has been suggestions in the medical literature that there may be a link with compromised immune systems and some types of cancer. This doesn't mean that the compromised immune system causes cancer, but makes the person more susceptible to cancer because they may be less resistant to other known cancer causing factors. There are many ladies on this board who also have a variety of auto-immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis(RA), crone's disease, lupus and fibromyalsia (I have RA).  It may be coincidence or there may be a real connection, but I don't think there is a definite answer. Some of our members may take this opportunity to share their experiences and you can see for yourself. Wishing you continued good health! Frayda
