took hubby to the e.r. on Saturday, he was admitted for an intestinal blockage, and Tuesday nite we had emergency surgery.  He's got a nice new 13" zipper, but he's okay, thank goodness.  They hadn't wanted to do this surgery back in December because of his weight, blood pressure, AAA, and the list goes on.  Thank goodness we got a few pounds off of him (27) and got his bp under control as well, with meds and the diet, before they had to go in.  He's on liquid diet for the next couple of days, then we go to soft foods, and then right back on Atkins.  If he even thinks of looking in the direction of Mickey D's, Joyce, I think I'll kill him myself!  At least it would be quick and infinitely less painful for me than watching him slowly kill himself.
Brought him home this afternoon...I just hope I can keep him here.  We've had enough excitement for one week.
Love and hugs to my breast friends....

Take very good care of yourself too.

OH Bev, that is really the pitts. Now we have to come up with a plan...... First we let him get better and then we need to restore you sanity. I have always said .....better it be me then my dh. How anyone so wonderful can turn an illness into a penance I have to serve I have no idea. I told him I am getting to old for him to get sick. You really have my sympathy. I know how rough it is. You just post to your hearts content and know we are with you. If you have any problems with him going back on Atkins let me know. I have a story you can use. You might warn him.... Cathi and I will come out and sit on him if he feels he needs something on his belly. Now there is a threat that should make him behave.  LOL Love and Hugs. Joyce

I'm sorry to hear about DH.  Glad he's home recuperating.  Hopefully, this will keep him on track with the weight loss.  Good luck!

Hubby is recovering nicely. A week without food took another 10 pounds off, so there is one benefit to being in the hospital! He has been suffering on and off since Christmas with this hernia and intermittent blockage, but this time, the blockage was not moving on its own. So, to make a long story short, he actually already looks better than he has in months. We haven't had any problems with going back on food, and no complaints about the Atkins, either. I still have the abdominal aortic aneurism to hang over his head. Fixing that sucker, should we ever have to (he has CT scans every few months to monitor), will make this last hospital stay seem like a cakewalk. Fortunately, it has remained stable for the last 18 months or so. Taking weight off and getting the blood pressure down, I'm hoping it shrinks. Such optimism! Like we would be that lucky??? I'm seriously thinking we should change our last name to "murphy" and get it over with!

Love and hugs and mucho thanks for the well wishes...
PS...Joyce and Cathi, just warn me before you come.  The 170 (and-a-half, as my vet always points out)-lb. rottie is a real "daddy's boy."  I think we'd need Thorazine or whatever that stuff is they shoot elephants and such with.  Perhaps Sue could send some!  LOL

Oh Bev,

So sorry that your week has been so worrisome. Please tell your hubby that we here in central Ohio are sending our prayers and thoughts his (and your) way. Wow, a 13" zipper on the tummy.....OUCH!!!!!

Make sure he doesn't overdo.

Thinking of you and him.

OMG - you have had your share.  Why is it that men have to be completely down before they will do anything to help themselves.  Hang in there, sounds like he is on the right road.  Glad to hear the aneursym (sp) is stable for now at least.  We have a neighbor who just went through that surgery.  It wasn't as bad as he thought.  But this is the 3rd he has had too.  Compared to the one in his chest, this was a piece of cake he said. ha

Keeping you in prayers,
