Did you see the latest news? NBC reported tht a new study from Kaiser Permanente demonstrated that 1 drink per day increased the odds of BC by 10%. 3 drinks a day increase the odds by 30%.
Brian Williams asked Robert Bazell about all the women at home yelling at the tv because they have been drinking red wine for the heart benefits. And what about the women who drink more and never get bc or those that never drink and get bc...they acknowledged that it is just information and that women should draw their own conclusions, etc.
Interesting, and nice to hear that they acknowledge the information just "is".
It's always something....

Yeah right!!! I hate the taste of the stuff, so I have had very little alcohol in my life. My mother on the other hand has had a drink or two most nights for over 50 years and is just as healthy as can be at 94!!!! I sure wish they would quit all this BS and really find a cure or something positive. My daughter who was always the most healthy eater of my kids is the one with breast cancer. She also breast fed her kids for longer than the norm. She worked hard and got lots of exercise, stayed within good weight limits...on and on, she should not have breast cancer according to the BS. OK I will now jump down from my soapbox and take a deep breath and have a good day. Hope you all do, too. LOL MK

Hi Lori & MK

Just wanted to put my 2cents in, I cant believe that they would say that small amount of alcohol could cause breast cancer, first they tell us that a small amount is good for us and then it is bad for us.....what next!!! If you all remember George Burns he lived to be into his 90's and had a drink and smoked almost every day of his life so go figure! My dad who was a heavy drinker for most of his life just had his 89th birthday and is healthy as a horse and my mother died at age 65 from cancer and was a light drink so I really don't give much thought to what the new studies have to say. Im the youngest of 8 kids and the first to have cancer so what did I do wrong????? Okay enough rambling.

I just wanted to say I have missed all of you but have been having a rough time with my marriage right now and have not had the time nor the energy to post.

I just wanted to say I just lost my cat (Mattie) who I have had for 16 years and have had a tough time dealing with her loss. I seem to miss her alot more than I thought I would. I did not realize how much comfort she had given me over the years.

Who comes up with these things? Everything gives you cancer. I believe it's dormant in all of us and it just takes something(s) to make it become active. Not quite sure how else to word that. My dad used to say it's in the canned food we eat. No one will ever know why people get the types of cancer they do. Look at Andy Kaufman, never smoked and died from lung cancer in his 30's I think.

I've never been much of a drinker, myself. If it doesn't taste like fruit juice or soda pop, I don't drink it, and why pay more for the alcohol??? With an alcoholic brother and husband, I'd rather be sober, thank you.

I know of a study done several years ago that came to the same conclusion, but don't know if it was the same study. The one I saw was looking at the effects of smoking, which they could not link, and as an interesting side point, they found that women who drank did have a higher correlation.

Their conclusion was: women who drink tend to be heavier (although I've known some scrawny alcoholics!), and women with increased body fat are at higher risk of breast cancer.

Why are they so intent to find some "thing" that we women do that may cause our breast cancer, but try so hard to disprove that what doctors do to us (ie...feed us hormones) could be to blame; and all the while, they could be looking for a cure for the darned disease instead. Does this make sense???

My mom was dead at 45, never drank, never smoked, was a pillar of the church. She may as well have enjoyed herself, I say. People always told me, "only the good die young." (This was before Billy Joel, of course.) Sometimes I wanted to throttle people who told me that, because it just didn't make sense to me. Still doesn't. I agree with Billy...sooner or later, it comes down to fate. And that's about all there seems to be to it, to me.

Love and hugs...

So that's what caused it!    Good to know!!!
Oy Vay!  I guess being a Schikka wasn't such a funny thing after all, huh.  MK is right.  This totally distracts from finding the cure or something positive.

Kattbird you are so right.
My sister in law and I both\went for mammo's in August, She never smoked,
, always took good care of herself as far as exercising, eating well, etc.
I on the other hand am not by no means a heavy drinker, but I do enjoy a coctail now and then, I have smoked..I exerise, but hardly what I should, and since I also have Crohns disease the nutrition from the food I get is almost nill.

We both were dx with Breast cancer.

I just wish they would spend more time trying to find a cure then promoting such a ridiculous claims.
