Hello, Just wanted to know if CFS and anemia were linked? Is it possible to have anemia without CFS or to have CFS without having anemia?

Thanks, KCJ

Um, no they're not linked. And yes it's possible to have one and not the other. There are several different types of anemia. Or it would probably be more accurate to say there are several different causes of anemia. And CFS is not one of them.

What they DO have in common, is fatigue. But with anemia, if the anemia is successfully treated, the fatigue will be cured. In CFS, the fatigue almost never goes away, even with what little treatments are available.

I hope this info is helpful. Welcome to the CFS forum, by the way! And please feel free to ask further questions, if you have any, or reply to other messages, if you feel inclined. We're glad to meet you. All best.

Brynn,

Thanks. Your information was very helpful and I will definately keep in touch. This board has been awesome and the support has been wonderful. I never thought to even question the type of anemia that I have and yet in the past few years I've endured at least 3-5 transfusions.

Thanks Again,

Tricia (a.k.a) KCJ...

OH MY!!
Well that does sound serious. You may notice several advantages to learning all you can about your medical condition--the ability to contribute to treatment decisions, the ability to manage the condition better, ability to take preventive measures, etc. Good luck with it!
