Hi all. I'm struggling to have the docs decipher if I am struggling with adrenal fatigue or depression. I may even have an allegic reaction to steroids and stimulants (took Adderall for ADHD and CRASHED though I'd taken it years back with no side effects). Been to 4 docs who all say my blood work is normal. One says it's long term depression catching up with me. I was trying to run a marathon and half way through training I took a steroid to help me recover from laryngitis and immediately began having all the symtoms of adrenal fatigue. No one has been able to help me get better. I've been on celexa and xanax for the last 10 months and I thought I was better until I tool aderrall 3 weeks ago. My system has crashed again even with the anti-depressant! What else is this stimulant doing to my body??? I don't even know what supplements to take anymore!

WOULD LOVE ANY TIP YOU CAN OFFER...THANKS.

Hi Olslick,

I had severe adrenal exhaustion along with Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Lymes. My doctor told me to get off sugar (fruit juice dried fruit, honey, etc) & caffeine since these overwork the adrenals. I was allowed a few cups of green tea a day if I needed some caffeine but no caffeine after 2:00 pm. You really need to get on a low carb natural foods diet amoung other things.

I don't know much about the meds except the less you can get by with the better. I am sending you a link to a hypoadrenal article. Low blood pressure can go along with overworked adrenals.

Best of luck!

I agree whole heartedly with Daryl1. Hope you make the come back and get to run your marathon. Wish I could train for one again. Thrill of a life time think I actually did it. Good luck coming up with the answers and don't forget to share.

When I was training for a marathon I fell for what all my friends were saying "eat carbs", "eat pasta" -- well, yes, for ONE or 2 meals before a long run.... but after a long run, and all the rest of the time, make sure you get 30-40% of your calories from PROTEIN. Protein is the building block for bones, muscles, joints, healing, eyesight, and a host of other things. If you happen to be eating too many carbs, esp. pasta carbs, that can exhaust you all by itself!

Hi Olslick,

Your blood tests can be totally normal and you may still have severe adrenal fatigue. I recommend the saliva test, which measures your cortisol levels over the course of a full day.

My GP hadn't even heard of adrenal fatigue and when I went to her initially she told me to get more exercise. I ran for an hour that Saturday and half an our the next day, and felt 5 times *worse.* If you have adrenal fatigue, you need to "exercise to exhilaration but not exhaustion," according to Dr James Wilson in Adrenal Fatigue: The 21-century Stress Syndrome, the book that helped me the most.

More info and my story on my blog: http://addyandme.blogspot.com ...hope it's helpful!
