Hello everyone,

This is my favorite health board and unfortunately I have a few questions to ask for those with CFS. My husband is out of breath after any exertion and also has had a runny nose for a long time. If he goes from room to room or the smallest activity, it takes 10 minutes or so, to catch his breath. Any ideas or advise on how to deal with this?

Thanks so much.

Denim, I would suggest he see his Doctor.  Does he have CFS?  I have lung problems but not due to the CFS.  Mine are Asthma related & smoking for 31 years.  Not bright but at least I have been quit for about 8 years now.  I would think he may need to see a Pulmonologist.  When I began having breathing problems my Doctor thought it could be my heart but it wasn't, thank goodness.  So, having breathing problems could be a serious thing & needs to be checked out.  Could also be allergies with sinus' draining into his bronchial tubes causing a shorness of breath.  Hope he finds out soon.  Let us know how he is doing.  Hugs, Denise

Thanks for your reply. I've had this checked out, the last was a hospital stay less than 2 weeks ago and they took plenty of tests, and it showed nothing. I would never let something like this go but figured try here for any ideas, since it seems the doctors never see anything or know as much as I would expect. Before this he had many tests also, everything normal.

Oh, he might have CFS- no straight answers. It does list that as a symptom. Labored breathing after any exertion. And I thought maybe allergies also, because his nose is always running. I feel like we have to be the doctors. Thanks again, Denise.

Hi Denim.  What are some of his other symptoms?  You are absolutely right, we do have to figure it out for ourselves.  Especially, it seems, if it is a long process in figuring it out.  Doctors just don't seem to have the time & some just really don't care.  I had already dx'd myself with Fibro & took the info to my Doctor but she had already figured it out.  Then I was dx'd with CFS & now I am on the search because of some new symptoms that are unrelated to either of these dx's.  I am so glad he has had so many tests done.  CFS is a diagnosis of elimination.  There are no tests that will say he has it, so the fact that everything comes back as normal is an indicator of CFS.  Fibromyalgia also is a dx of elimination.  One thing to keep in mind though, is that Auto Immune diseases can show as normal.  More testing needs to be done if one of those is suspected. The road to a diagnosis can be a long & winding one, I hope you come here often, this is a good place to come & find answers & friendship & understanding.  You might check out the Fibromyalgia forum as well because alot of people, about half, with CFS also have Fibro.  Hugs, Denise

Thanks Denise, for your kindness. I agree the people here are great and this is where I come for a question after I get no satisfaction with doctors. I can't believe how little knowledge most seem to have and have actually shrugged their shoulders at us. We both have problems, but the doctors don't seem to want to think or even order tests or referrels without us suggesting it. It has gone so down hill. If we can send millions and more to countries, how about using that money to help all the sick people in the US. It seems like there are so many unhealthy people that aren't getting proper treatment or concern. I pray for all the hurt people are going through and the drugs we have don't seem sufficient at all. If they don't make you sick, they get you addicted. Sorry for getting off the subject, but it's very disheartening. Thanks for your understandind and I wish you well also. Bless you.
