Hi.

I am visiting from the fibromyalgia forum.  I was dx'd in Feb and didn't doubt the dx.  However, I have had swollen glands since then and they don't seem to want to go away.  I was on a course of antibiotics and the the glands still are swollen.  Could this be cfs.  I get tired in the afternoons but so do fibro people.   I am active and do exercise.  I will be going to my Dr. in Sept.  I guess I just wonder if people with cfs are tired all of the time and do you have swollen glands?  Or are you just tired some times?

Dear Puppylover --

I noticed that you hadn't received an answer to your question.  Swollen glands and fatigue are just two of the symptoms shared by sufferers of CFS and FM.   Symptoms of IBS is another that is common for both diagnoses.

In my personal opinion, they are one and the same.  I believe that often the Fibro diagnosis is because the pain is more the primary symptom in comparison to the fatigue.  For each sufferer, the particular symptoms that are most troublesome for them may be different from another sufferer.  I also feel that some doctors "believe in" one malady and not the other.

Take care and good luck.  ~*~ Karen smilewinkgrin free2bfree

Hi Puppylover,  I know when my Fibro flares I have more pain but I can still pace myself even with the fatigue.  When my CFS flares I have all different symptoms, I do have pain but the fatiue is so bad I feel like I have a flu & my muscles feel exhausted.  I have to plan everything I do by how much energy do I have.  To just go to the bathroom, I have to lay there until I force myself up & when I am done I feel like I have run a marathon & I collapse.  With the CFS comes the swollen glands & a deep red blush across the bridge of my nose & it covers both cheeks.  Also, with the CFS my normal temperature is 96.8 to 97.3.  I am cold all the time.  These are just a few of the symptoms.  Like Fibro, CFS comes in flares & can last from a few days, a few weeks, to always flaring.  When my CFS is not flaring I can exercise a little & can be more active.  It is very confusing & some symptoms overlap with Fibromyagia or Lupes or other illnesses so it is hard to dx.  But there are definite symptom to CFS.    I hope you find what is wrong.  Fibromyalgia never seems to stand alone.  I often wonder why & hope someday we will have some better answers.  Hugs, Denise
