I had prolapsed hemorrhoids and was told by the surgeon that it would take 2 to 3 months to heal. That was 9 months ago and the pain is still excruciating, there is still bleeding and a lot of leakage. The suggestion for pain relief has been just paracetamol and I take 6 of these a day. They barely work. I`m reluctant to go to morphine. I also have had a mouthful of ulcers from oral thrush for 6months which may have resulted from my general run down condition. I have been using the recommended treatment for for this with no result. To add to my misery people politely say I smell. And I suppose I do.
I`m posting this because I live in a country area and maybe the medical treatment is not the best. Could I ask for your advice on:
. Is it reasonable for recovery of this surgery to take so long?
. Should I change doctors/ surgeons, have more than one?
. Could I/ should I go to a Pain Management help center?
. Is there a pain relief suppository? Docs have said not to use any in this area. But I can hardly walk.
. Would anti depressants help me?
Thank You. Shilly

Hi Shilly,

I'm really sorry you are going through this pain. Whilst I can't answer many of your questions, I would definitely recommend getting a second opinion. If the Dr you see is in agreeance with your initial Dr, then I would recommend Pain Management before trying Morphine. Have you tried Tramadol for pain??

Wishing you all the best xo

I was wondering how things have progressed with you.

I had PPH- procedure for prolapsed hemorrhoids, also called stapled hemorrhoidopexy - three years ago and the pain has NEVER gone away. I've tried many different medications and therapies, and I'm barely able to work. Have no personal or social life anymore because of the pain. I'm hoping you have had better recovery than I. Did you have the same procedure?

Hi, I am so sorry to read both accounts of not so simple surgery.

Chronic pain is an illness of its own. I don't have the same problems as you both but have chronic pain and daily headaches. Shilly, if you need an anti-depressant because you are depressed then it might help you. I am on Nortriptyline for Neuralgia. It is not a dose for treating depression. It does not bring my pain to a halt but it has helped in other ways (sleep and suppresses nerve spasms for me). I have lived with canker sores as long as I can remember and know what kind of pain you are in. I sometimes put salt directly on them which stings but helps them heal. I also buy stuff at the drug store to use to help them along. I imagine you are taking something for the oral thrush too? Someone mentioned the benefits of olive leaf extract in Fibro section. I have not tried it yet but wonder if it might help you in some way.

Are you allowed or able to sit in salt water to help you heal?

Not much help but I am indeed sorry to read of your health challenges.

Take care.
