Mindfulness was not a term I was familiar with when I was diagnosed with chronic illness 17 years ago. Looking back, I wish I had known more about how to practice it in my life. It would have saved me a lot of worry, distress, and hopelessness. I've since learned that mindfulness is a set of skills for healing, intuition, insight, calmness, focus, resilience, and hope that you can use to counter the inevitable adversity of chronic illness.

I have practiced Buddhism for many years although I am by no means adept. I am extremely grateful to have started to develop acceptance and letting go before I became ill. CFS is the saddest, hardest, loneliest experience of my life, and Buddhism has kept my heart from breaking.

Thanks for sharing this Peter. I'm in the process of researching mindfullness to be able to start using soon.


Dx Fibromyalgia, CF, Severe TMJ, Osteopenia of lower spine, arthritis of L hip, bursitis of L shoulder and hip, GERD, Perimenopause and query RA. Deleting Dairy and sugar out of my diet was what set me on the road to recovery.
