I have been suffering from CFS for 14 months. As you all know, it is miserable. I have been to every kind of doctor on earth searching for answers and hoping for a different diagnosis of something more treatable. Over the last month, I have been taking matters into my own hands and I must say, although I'm not 100%, I am so significantly better that I wanted to share in the hope that others may benefit.

First, I drastically changed my diet. I am currently dairy free, gluten free, sugar free, and alcohol free. My diet consists of lean, organic meat, tons and tons of fresh veggies, almond milk, hummus, and occasionally a sweet potato or gluten free brown rice cake. Basically, I am doing the Candida Diet. I'm taking natural supplements to stimulate my lymphatic system, my adrenals, as well as an herbal supplement to cleanse my intestines. I am doing all of this under the care of a Board Certified Chiropractor that specializes in integrative and functionalist medicine from Cupertino, Ca.

The first week on the diet was awful. It takes committment--you have to plan your meals and eat throughout the day so you stay full. Everything has sugar in it, so you really learn to read labels.

In a short period of time, I have come through a horrible flare up and am feeling like I have more energy. My fatigue is decreased as are many of my symptoms. My primary complaint right now is persistent lightheadedness, but for the first time this morning it didn't start right away and I had about two hours where I felt about 85% well, which I haven't felt since the onset of my illness.

At any rate, I hope that someone out there sees this and is willing to give it a try. I know it won't help everyone, but it certainly won't hurt anyone, either.

I was going to respond to someones comment but now it is gone. In answer to their question, I did not use the office that you mentioned. I did use a doctor in Cupertino although I don't think we are allowed to mention individual doctor's names on here.

One thing I do every day is  eat  broccoli. It fights cancer in your body.( I dont have cancer)

Yes a healthy diet makes all the difference

I am taking three supplements. The first I started with my diet and it is for GI support. It is all herbal. The herbs are designed to rebuild the gut, prevent leaky gut, and also to get rid of overgrowths of Candida. The second supplment is for lymph support. A lot of people that do the Candida diet experience 'die off' symptoms and by supporting healthy lymph flow, these symptoms are reduced. The third supplement is for adrenal support. I am currently working with an endocrinologist and have more extensive testing done on my adrenals to check for adrenal insufficiency and adrenal fatigue.
All of the supplements are coming from my doctor, and the maker of them produces very high quality supplements that absorb well in the body. I'm in week 3 of my detox and I'm feeling good. My symptoms are minimal. I know that this may not 'cure' everything, but it has helped. And it's healthy. :)

This is fantastic news for you HoldingOut Hope!!  I've had a similar experience.  I saw a GP who was also a naturopath and she immediately took me off sugar and dairy.  I felt better within the week.  I took chromium to help with the sugar withdrawals and basically began the liver cleansing diet as well as deleting the above foods.  There are some supplements to help with adrenal fatigue and CF that can't be imported into Australia which is such a shame as I believe they would really help.  I must try and find the Australian equivalent.

I have since gone back on sugar and some dairy and everything has come back, the fatigue, the inflammation, the bowel troubles, the upper gastric pain etc etc.  Happy to say that I'm in the process of getting off it again.

As you've said, it is a huge commitment but one that gives ones life back for the better!! Why wouldn't anyone try it???

Congratulations again and may your health continue to improve.

Cheers  Lou

I think there is definitely a lot to the diet connection. I had a couple of drinks last week and I could feel it the next day. It's a commitment to stay on the diet, but it has been so worth it. :)
