Hi,

I have FMS but am asking this question for a friend of mine with CFS. I realize there are many similarites but at the same time, there are differences. She seems to be experiencing many episodes of vertigo and I was just wondering if this is a common complaint of CFS? I do know it is fairly common with FMS but does anyone here have it? Her doc first thought it was being caused by a virus but since it has continued, they may be backing off of that theory. I'd appreciate any input--thanks.

Hey Foggie...
I too suffer from vertigo but never investigated it. I was just diagnosed 2 days ago with CFS and FM. Next time I go ot my doctor I will ask her about and and pass the information back off to you if you'd like.

Thanks Foreign, I would appreciate that. My friend has had CFS for several years now but this is a new symptom for her. It is especially scary as she lives alone. I don't think she is associating the CFS but I would have to guess that some symptoms may be not as common but still might be related.

Foggie,

I have both FMS and CFS. I have been suffering from vertigo a lot lately. In fact it has gotten so bad I went to see a Neurologist for that and a few other problems. Anyway, I had and MRI of my brain Saturday with attention to the 8th nerve (the dizziness nerve), my MRI came back normal. Unfortunately I think it is just a part of both conditions.

I have had CFS for many years and had vertigo off and on over the years. lately however I am dizzy just about everyday. In fact I am on Antivert (Meclizine) for vertigo. My PCP's partner saw me one day when he wasn't in the office and she diagnosed me with Benign Positional Vertigo a fancy way of saying if I turn my head to quick I get dizzy. I think that is a weird diagnosis because most of the time I can just be sitting still and feel like I am about to black out because I am so dizzy.

Hugs,

Rene'

Hi foggie,

I am new to this board, but not to CFS and its symptoms. My daughter, now 20, has been ill for the past 6 years. Dizziness is one of her major problems. She often faints. A cardiologist diagnosed her with neurally mediated hypotension after a positive tilt table test. NMH is very common with CFS patients. When my daughter's brain fog is at its worst so are her dizzy spells and fainting episodes. She has to crawl up stairs and can barely walk without help.

Before she was ill, she was an extremely athletic girl...tennis player, runner...she used to perform jump rope tricks, flipping through the air... the crowd of people screaming and clapping. Now, she can barely get out of the house. It is unbelievable.

Very interesting Rene` & Red2,
I know vertigo can be related to fibro, but I wasn't sure about the CFS. Obviously, it must not be as common with CFS. I received a call from her yesterday and now she has suspicions about maybe developing fibro as well. While I truly hope not, she has had some x-rays and I think something else which showed nothing. I also think I remember her mentioning hypotension one time. Sorry to hear you (Rene`) and Red's daughter are afflicted with this also. Even without CFS/FMS vertigo seems to be a puzzling diagnosis and hard to explain. I hope in all these cases it will either just go away or they will find out what is causing it! Thank-you for your input.
