I am new to 'healingwell'. I am in Ireland and I have crohns disease and have had surgery for that etc. Recently I 'crashed' and went into hospital very unwell and was diagnosed with ME/chronic fatigue. I wasnt told why or what to do and was sent home. that was last July 05 and I have seen no specialist since and things gettin worse. We do not have any specialist dealing with chronic fatigue or ME and most consultants believe it is 'all in the mind'
What would be my first step in solving some of this dilemma. I am holed in here in my apartment with most of my life on hold, I am a professional artist.
I am now very depressed, having little help and no support.
Bye now,

in the next few days I'll try to track down the doctor in Cork my wife went to, he arranged all the tests and diagnosed her with Cronic Fatigue (basically all the tests came back clear and then they call it chronic fatigue, as far as I know).
I'm in the Crohns section too...
I'm interested to know if you were on Imuran when you 'crashed',
I had to tell my specialist I was coming off the Imuran as I was totally wrecked, unable to sleep and extreemely tired, I perked up the very next day (not totally, but loads better), to my wifes delight as she's having a bad patch with the CF and I was able to help around the house for once.

I WAS put on Imuran during my crohns 'career' but I seemed to have, very soon afterwards, not tolerated it and was quickly taken off it. So I can say no, I wasnt on it when I crashed.
Do you see your crohns specialist often cos I do not, hardly ever, I am just wondering if you are having check-ups every so often. My gastro doesnt seem to bother unless I am in dire shape.
Thanks for your response, I really do appreciate it.
I know about been sent home with all the bloods fine and told you have ME and thats that. Thats the depressing part!
Oh well, driving lesson today. That cheers me up no end!

Well the Hospital was the Shanakiel (think it may be a private hospital, it's a small one anyway) and the doc was Dr. Walsh. don't know if this will be any help to you.
I asked the wife and she seems to agree with you that there are no specialists for Chronic fatigue in Ireland, it was the second time going through the tests with dr walsh, first time was a few years ago (when he diagnosed CF after the tests came back negative for anything else) and last year again the same thing.

I see the Gastro specialist at least every two months, so far nothing has worked with me (only told I had Crohns last June 2005). He put me on Pentasa, which I am still on and I'm supposed to be going for steroid injections in the next two weeks.
It may be worth asking in the Crohns section about the tiredness, as it's a part of the CD and people may have some answers for you.

I do NOT see consultant for Crohns every two months!! Glad you do! I am on Pentasa as well and am a member of NACC National Assoc. of Crohns & Colitis in England. They do an EXCELLENT newsletter, and a help-line.
Consultant says the tiredness is too great for crohns.
Bye for now, wish you well +++
