 I had a dangerous exposure to STDs a while ago and in 4 days came up with a fever. I went to a STD specialist and tested positive for Infectious Mono. Tests were done twice. Then I went on the internet and found out that it takes 30-60 days for EBV to strike, after you are infected. I asked my STD doc about that, and he told me that he have seen cases when it strikes a person faster.

I had fever for couple of days, then sore throat, white tongue, and my lymph nodes feel large on the neck. Fever is gone, but I still have sore throat, adn white tounge. Feel tired as well. I'm negative for HIV so far (thanks G-d) at 12 weeks.

Here is my question;

Most web sites say that it takes 1-3 weeks to get rid of the sore throat. But its 12 weeks and I still have sore sroat. Is it posible for EPV to cause my throat symptoms for so long.

Hello and welcome. I really hope your symptoms get under control soon. I don't know for sure what the answer to your question is. With some severe cases of EBV it might take longer for symptoms to clear up. There are even some people who have what is called chronic EBV. Your doctor should do some labs again and see if your EBV numbers are going down. I'm very glad for you that you are HIV negative so far. Let me know if you have any other questions. Take care

thank you for your reply. Scary thing is that most websites state that EBV goes away by itself relatively quick.
I'm going to an infectionist today, and I'm going to ask him to run all test possible. I was hiking couple of days ago and noticed that I'm sweating really bad. Other people were fine, but I was all wet. I think the excessive sweating started before my stupid exposure, and I feel discomfort in the neck. So perhaps I'm experiencing hyperthyroidism. I found out that it can also cause sore throat, tongue issues and diarrhea. I do have higher then normal blood pressure, and I had it for a long time, however I was always fine, playing 3 games of soccer a week. I'm praying to G-d that this is some strong EBV. I'm scared to death of HIV
