Is it possible to have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome if you are not tired every day ?

In my case, I am terribly exhausted and weak approximately 1/3 of the time, but on the other hand, there are whole days, maybe once or twice a week, where I am perfectly fit.

Would CFS be excluded on that basis ?

I don't know the answer to that, but from what I've read and heard, CFS can take many different forms in different people, and it can manifest with different degrees of severity, so I don't think what you're describing would necessarily rule it out.

Hi Annaelle! And welcome to HealingWell's chronic fatigue forum. You will find lots of good information and support.

Sorry you are not feeling well. Fatigue and weakness can be symptoms of so many differnt things, it is hard to say whether you are suffering from CFS or something else is causing your issues.. Do you have other symptoms too and have you talked to a doctor already? Usually CFS is debilitating fatigue often accompanied by what some describe as flulike symptoms, as well as sleep, memory and concentration problems. The severity of symptoms can vary, and for some people come in waves, with periods of remission.

Yes, I have talked to my doctor. I still need to do an evaluation to rule out a sleep disorder, but all my lab results are normal. I had hepatitis C, but I have fully recovered from that.

I actually have other symptoms than fatigue. I have had bad memory and concentration pbs but this seems to get much better now. The following additional problems come and go :

- muscle weakness

- urinary frequency

- palpitations

- dizziness

- orthostatic hypotension

- hypotension in general

- ear ringing

- vibrating sensation in the legs

- somnolence

- diarrhea

- tension on the sides of the neck

- chest oppression

- feeling cold

The worst is the fatigue. Most of the time, I don't even feel sleepy, but I have the impression that I am not fully awake, in a trance, or as if I was under the effect of some substance (I don't take drugs, alcohol, and medications except vitamins and minerals). When I take a nap or rest, often I feel much worse after !

The strange thing is this happens some days, it can last 2-3 days, or just a few hours. The rest of the time I can be perfectly OK. I never know in advance when it is going to happen !

I wonder if anyone here has the same kind of experience, if it could be CFS...

Annabelle, you obviously have a lot going on. Certainly many of your symptoms fall under the CFS banner. Remember that CFS stands fro Chronic Fatigue SYNDROME, and a syndrome is not a specific diagnosis, per se, but a constellation of symptoms. Be that as it may, it also seems to me that hypotension could be bringing on a lot of your symptoms too. It seems you and your doctor are the best judges of what is causing all the problems. Unfortunately, for many with CFS and related disorders this sometimes takes a long time and some doctor don't seem to understand much about it. Keep searching, and continue to feel free to post here your questions and concerns.

Mine is not every day...  Most days but not every.  If I take it "easy" I don't do to badly.  Any time that I push myself I pay for it dearly.  For instance, I had all my kids this weekend, for the first time since Christmas.  We went to the mall and we got family pictures done.  I got to the mall around 1 and we left around 5 or 6.  I was OUT as soon as I got all the kids to bed, I got back up at 9 and fell asleep watching cartoons with my son.  I slept for another 3 hours and I am still exhausted.  If I pace myself I do okay but if I don't get enough sleep I totally break down.  I hth.
