In previous posts I mentioned what I was going through at school.  Well, much hit the fan last week when my meds made me sick.  Even though they have excuses from my physician they are telling me they are giving me 0's on an exam and assignment (that I had tried to hand in the previous week) which would end up meaning I can not pass the class even if I get 100 on every test and assignment left in the class. By the end of the week I had totally crashed because of the meds, the lack of sleep from vomiting all night and just having the CFS and EBV.
Anyway, I contacted FAFSA and got the number for the ombudsman.  As I was discussing the situation with them and how the 0 on the exan is against the FMLA I was also explaing that my withdraw was medical last semester and that I had to complete 24 credits in one semester or, according to the school, I would have NO funding or aide to finish school.  She is looking into it further but it appears as though the school did NOT process my withdraw as medical and that I should NOT be being forced to do 24 credits.  Last semester should have been wiped clean and NOT counted against my financial aide in any way.  I should be doing 12 credits just like everone else.  I am waiting to hear back from them tomorrow and she suggested that I contact the state rep and once they have given me all the info and regulations to contact my lawyer.
I am down right angry at the moment.  I handed in my paperwork from my physician twice, they have a consent form and have spoken to my physician, I jumped through every hoop they put in front of me, I met with the Dean of admissions and the head of financial aide as well as the head of nursing and the head of my current level, I went through like 7 schedules before I managed to schedule 3 courses around my nursing schedule, I have passed EVERY test I have taken, I have written every paper and passed, I have completed all their bloody paperwork (more than once in some cases) and they still aren't happy.  I quote "While I am not unsympathetic to your situation" and then some blah blah blah about it being my fault I quit in Sept...  If her information is correct I am filing a law suit against the school.  For the fall they sent back all of my aide but kept a $6000 personal loan to pay the tuition I "owed."  I am suing for that plus the money I have put out to UOP, another $5000.  In addition I have to take a summer course because it is a prerequisite for my final level and it would not fit in with all the courses I had to take this semester.  I want them to pay for it.  When the lawyer is done adding that up I want compensated for crashing under the course load...
Anyway...enough is enough and well...they are just not on my happy list.  Any advice or anyone know anything about FAFSA and FMLA?

Angie, I got mad for you reading your post. It sounds like all of this never should have happened if someone had filed everything correctly. I don't blame you for being really mad about this - it sounds ridiculous.

I don't remember which meds you started on, but I'm sorry they made you so sick. Have you talked to the doctor about the meds making you sick?

I imagine your lawsuit will be long and drawn out, but don't give up - they'll make it as difficult on you as they can in hopes that you will give up and drop it.

Hang in there and keep us posted on how things are going. Take care.
