Is it possible if you have insomnia that it can impair your immune system enough that you can develop complications during and after a viral infection

I don't really have an exact answer to your question, but I would think that ongoing insomnia wouldn't be good for your imune system, but I don't know how much it impairs it. People with cfs can have insomnia which does make symptoms more pronounced. There are options of prescript ion meds for sleep if you are comfortable talking to your doctor about it, sometimes it just takes a little while to find the right one that works for you.

From what I've read poor sleep can definitely stress your immune system. Your body does a lot of repairs at night while you're sleeping, and if you're not sleeping well enough or long enough it can't finish its repairs each night and, over time, you start to wear out. However, poor sleep can also be the result of underlying health issues such as infections, hormonal imbalances, or metabolic disorders. So which came first?

The sleep issues. I havent been sleeping very well for the past 6 & 1/2 or 7 years. I mean, i can sleep 15 hours and wake up and be as worn out as i was before i went to sleep... i toss and turn or wake up at random times through out the night. It is irritating to know that no matter how much or how little i sleep i am still tired.
