It was Mono.  Well, I guess I "officially" have CFS

My infectious disease doctor called me back to her office after she got the labs back.  They took so much blood, I was thinking (they're going to find another....AGAIN).

Nope.  My Anti-bodies for having Mono in the past were through the roof.  I asked her, is there any possible was something is throwing that off, and she said nope.  You definitely had Mono in the past.

So, this explains it all.  My fatigue, sore neck...  My wife had Mono around the time when I was feeling fatigued.  Ofcourse I got tested, and the results for having it and having it in the past were negative.  Perhaps it just wasn't long enough... I don't know.  It explains why when I went away I felt better.  I relaxed, didn't stress or workout and my body allowed myself to heal.  It also explains why I didn't feel 100% better when taking breaks, but a little better.

Now...  I guess all I have it time and more time.  :-).  I should be sad about this, but I cannot help to feel joy.  I finally know what this is and I can finally tell people that It's not in my head, I really did have something happen to me.

Wow, who would have guessed. I think a lot of doctors just check the "mono spot" test which I think tests for current and active mono. When my son first got sick a few years ago with terrible fatigue his mono spot was negative but his numbers for having mono in the past were very high too. You are right that it does explain a lot of your symptoms. So I guess now you play the waiting game. I can personally attest to the fact that it can take a long time to get over mono. After I had it when I was 18, I was pretty sick and fatigued for at least a year. Some people seem to recover more quickly than others. I unfortunately think mono was the catalyst for my CFS and later for my lupus. I really hope that after some time you start to get some energy back - it can be a long road. At least now you know you really need to take it easy for a while and not push yourself. Hang in there and I'd love to hear some updates when you get a chance.

Thanks HM2!!

Yeah, they tested me for past infection as well.  That's what I don't understand.  My doctor thinks the lab could have made a mistake.  Seeing this past lab though, there is no mistaking it.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about.  This has been over a year now, however.... I was on a path to self destruction during this year, so... it's possible that now that I truly know what this is I'll be able to heal faster....?  I don't know.  We'll see.

I'll stay in touch!

Hey, My name is Maria, I´m 25 and I had mono too. I didn´t feel the common symptoms of mono during the illness( sore thorat, fever).. I just felt tired and sleepy. But after this I began with stronger symptoms and my doctor told me I had CFS. Luckily I´m not that tired to miss classes at college or not going to work, but It´s difficult.. I don´t feel I´m the same person anymore. Has anyone had recovered completly?

Take care!

Maru

Maria,

Wow, that's just like me.  No sore throat, fever, chills... nothing.  Just fatigue and neck pain.

Yup.  I took can do a little around the house and go to work, but I cannot live my life like I use to (workout, martial arts).  The things that made me well... me I can no longer do.

How long have you been like this?

Thanks Orion for your response!

Right after I discovered I had mono ( august 2006), I started with my symptoms.

I gain weight too, but not because I couldn´t exercise, It´s weird, but I have more "fat" on my belly and arms.

I don´t know, this hole thing is driving me crazy.
